So I slept in pretty late today. I got up, had breakfast and started chatting with the girlfriend who reminded me that I needed to get my passport done. So I showered got ready and headed into Surrey to drop off my application.

Traffic was pretty bad getting there, but once there I found a spot to park and found the passport office easily enough. The was virtually no line, which was great, so I made it past the first kiosk fine, got the security guy to activate the elevator to the real passport office and up I went. I didn't have to wait long to see the actual passport person, and it was only maybe 10 minutes before she handed me back my licence and birth certificate.

So I head back to the elevators and push the down button. The doors to my right open up. A familiar face walks by, then stops briefly.

"Ross?"

Our very own Ross Rifle just happened to get off the elevator at the exact time that I was getting on. So we chatted briefly, but I didn't want him to miss his number, and didn't want to get arrested or something for going back in to the office. I'm sure he'll post the picture from his cell when he gets home.

Yes, but everyone all lives together in one spot. And, remember, you can get anywhere in Canada by following The Only Road.

Or like a really bad South Park episode.

This would probably happen with me and/or Syd, Jeebus, or Zarack if we didn't live on opposite sides of the fucking state.

How do you Canadians feel about Southpark's portrayal of you as floppy headed and constantly saying things like guy and buddy? Confused

Oh, that stuff's all accurate. I was just saying the Wizard of Oz parody with Saddam at the end was awful.

I picked you out, but then again, it was in a place I knew you were and had about a 1/3 chance of getting it right.

it's more annoying than you think to be noticed by people who see you online.

I would try to be recognized IRL if I wanted to post a legitimate pic of myself on the internet.

Having done this more than once (I should write a book about it, or at least a topic), I will say it needs to be handled carefully. But I've never had it turn out poorly.

It helps a LOT if you meet at a neutral place, not their house. If you meet someone online for the first time in their home, it's awkward. Also, it helps a lot if you have some sort of icebreaking activity to get you talking...Magic the Gathering has served me well in this so far, and video games also help too.

And hey, people are different on the internet. In real life, you may not like them, and they may not like you. Or you may find out people you hate on the internet are cool people in real life.

For the record, I met my wife in an online roleplaying chat. So yeah.

Seriously, this goes down as the single most amazing and random experience of my life. I went out on a grand shopping trip with my sister, our aunt, and our aunt's friend and her daughter. My sister needed back to school clothes, and since our parents weren't gonna help her out, I offered to. Since Surrey has decent shopping, we decided to go on the day that my passport was available for pickup. So we go, and it's a long irritating trip, as most roadtrips with two-year-olds are. We get to the office, I go to the security guard, get in the elevator, and head up.

As I exit the elevator and head to the right, I see what seemed to be a flash of familiarity. I stop and do a bit of a double-take and I hear a voice say 'Ross?'. I can't even describe the thoughts going through my head, but I turn around and there he is, Valdronius himself. I was in utter shock and awe.

So he tells me he's back in Vancouver and wants to see my band play and I ask him two very important questions: 1. What's your name? and 2. Did you show aika your penis? (I shall keep his answers to both questions unsaid.) I get a stranger to take a picture of us and we go on our merry ways. Intense.

As soon as I figure out how to upload photos to facebook from my phone, I'll post it.

Does anybody here have a Ross Rifle?
