if you say "because it uses the exact script from the original with only updated visuals" I would have to say that you are wrong. the updated setting is what really helps. the old dialog actually detracts from this.

I'm not quite sure what a rolleyes emoticon has to do here in our discussion except to try to insinuate that I am somehow stupid for having this opinion that obviously varies from yours.

More like this discussion has gone to the point that we will just be going on circles.
Let's just leave it like that.

I don't really see how it will go in circles, but it HAS been getting kinda stupid. Once a guy starts tossing random rolleyes emoticons into the mix as replies to my thought out posts, I kinda lose interest in the discussion.

Haha, oh men, I love that Hamlet.
I think you all whine too much, if you kknow it'll suck, just don't see it. If you "still want to see it", internet is a free source. If you stop paying for shitty things, there won't be any. If other people still pay.....well, then you can't blame Hollywood, they just want money and as they don't have any kind of moral code or anything, they do a great job! Not because the result is good, but because they attain what they search. Consequentialism. I don't aprove of it. It just is.

I think its going to take a long, long time for my poor English-major's heart to recover from reading that.
Off to go cry in a corner now.

you are misinterpreting me.
I'm not saying that shakespear's romeo and juliete is bad.I am saying that it was written a long time ago. when it was written, I'm sure people walked around talking like that. the human language has progressed to the point where the dialogue that he uses sounds weird and unnatural to the uneducated.
basically, people didn't have to take classes to understand what he is trying to convey back when it was originally written. now that we do, it doesn't work well in a movie.

Naw, I pretty much understood your point. I was mostly being facetious.
Although since we're on the subject really, is Shakespeare that much harder to understand that say, internet/nerd speak? I don't think it is. Your ear just has to get attuned to it, that's all.

You know what's REALLY ironic and sad? Shakespeare's language was the ebonics of its day.
I can only assume that the upper crust walked around speaking Latin or something after taking that into consideration.

The common folk paid to see Shakespeare BECAUSE of the language he used. The language of his plays were not common speak for the day. It was same unique poetry back then as it is today. More of the words were in common usage, but the common man did not speak like that. When the lower class went to see Willy's works, it made them feel more important, and of higher class than what they were.

You're trying to tell me a bunch of unwashed masses were willing to sit through something they couldn't even understand?
Foolish. Never happens now, surely wouldn't have happened them.

Makes sense though. Since Shakespeare invented something along the lines of 10-20% of the words he used, it stands to reason no one had ever heard them (or heard them used like that) before.

That's why it's initials only and i'm hoping hollywood is dumb enough not to recognize.
Anyway, i've seen what the smirfs will looks like and quite frankly i'm a little disiponted. It looks like something that can be made with claymation (ie nightmare before Christmas, Wallace and Gromit) and not CGI. In fact, i would see the movie if they did use claymation but of course they'll use CGI because it's cheaper and lazy.
I get that franchises need to be reestablished for a newer generation, look that batman. So many variants to choose from all dependent on the era. But hell even Hollywood got batman wrong at one point with 'Batman and Robin' and that is why people are so pissed off with these remakes.
Hollywood is not trying to make the movies better but rely on the next fad to make a quick buck (fad = CGI). I wasn't expecting a remake of the first Tranformers movie from Bay or Hollywood but i was expecting something that recognizes the series and try to respect the franchise with new and creative ideas and methods.
I mean for god sakes the Wheelie transformer in Bay's movie was so fucking simple that they could have used animitronics but no they used CGI with EVERYTHING and called it 'live' action.
You know, i got spoiled by the Dark Knight and District 9. Hollywood proved that it can still make good movies but it chooses to make one or two good movies and a sea of medicoare ones. The really problem is very few movies fall under remake and good lately.
you know what i'm going to stop and post a video reviewing transformers 2, it sums up how i feel about hollywood's shenanigans.

I will close with this: I don't expect greatness but i do expect something!
