Yet, games like the 19XX Nintendo World Championship cartridges, only raise in price. Didn't the last one sold go for like $10,000?

honestly, if you're just trying to "relive the magic" or whatever, you could just get them on an emulator.

I like to consider myself a collector, personally, and would one day love to have a room that looks like this. I don't think it's the same as pogs, and I don't really see anythign wrong with Buffalo Bill in the above vid.

Half of the enjoyment that I get out of collecting is the hunt, honestly. To track down a game that I remember from my childhood and see how it's aged or how it stacks up to current games. To be able to have a story, like "I drove all the way to Clifton NJ, the store where AVGN beat the shit out of Captain S and the nostalgia critic, just to get my hands on a game." Sometimes you run across weird little curiosities, and sometimes you actually end up learning stuff you didn't know on your journey.

Look, its just a rant. My real problem is with people who don't even play these games. They just want to collect them like they are baseball cards. They are not collector items! If you check Ebay for a lot of Atari games you will find they are not expensive. and most have no bids at all. This is because that generation has moved on, much like ours will. It's fine to collect things, but it is my opinion that video games are meant for playing and not for shelving. Also, if you don't think anything is wrong with ol Bill in the video then you must be from the Netherlands.

ok there captain offense taken to general discussion guy. take a deep breath, it's okay, I won't try to further add to this conversation if it means that much to you.

I've always wanted to own the actual cart of Earthbound. My cousin still has his(which is how I was able to play the game as a kid,) even has the strategy guide still. He also has Super Mario RPG, FF, all that shit. But then again, he's 27, deathly afraid of girls, still lives at home, and goes on vacations with just his mom. So maybe it's not worth it.

Just youse guys wait. I have a fool-proof plan to solve the problem of emulators just not being the same:

1.) Learn computer engineering, at least enough to work with ICs and microprocessors.
2.) Design SNES flash cart, WITH every special chip on board to play ROMs that require them(SMRPG, Star Fox, etc.)
3.) Get the Chinese to illicitly manufacture it
4.) Profit

It's a can't miss.

I bet that game would be worth something if you kept it sealed for 20 years...

It would appear so, but my idea is actually a fully fleshed-out business plan. No question marks needed.

I may need a Chinese man to facilitate negotiations though. Any volunteers?

It would work great on the Wii. But only if they include the black magic gesture(or movement, whatever the hell it was, all I remember is stupid kids making motions over the stack before tossing their slammers down.)

Wow, apparently I miss out on the whole pog thing. Damn, what was I doing when this was catching on?

Oh yeah, right. Going to parties, getting drunk, doing drugs, and having sex. (All at same time, mostly.)

Old school. At my elementary school, it was stabbing kids in the kidneys with keys. My friend and I invented it, we called it "Gay Bashers."

We weren't homophobic, though.

What could you possibly have keys for in elementary school? Confused

I don't tend to really collect old games but I still buy the games I really want to play. I won't buy a game I'm not particularly interested in for the sake of just saying I have it.

I've had 2 different NES collections in my life, both were stolen. So I won't ever try that again. I couldn't get a third of them to play anyway. However, I plan on getting a Wii and was curious about how the downloadable NES/SNES games held up. Has anyone here ever purchased any with the Wii?

Yes and it's an NES game + a Wii controller only difference. Question answered.

I could probably justify my Wii just for downloads, you also have the bonus of "pausing" your game when you stop for the night...that way you can start from where you left off which is sweet for games without a save feature.

Just wondering if it was the exact same games, and not the SMB All-Star treatment. That would be lame.

i dunno where your buying from but on ebay the games are at the most $20 roughly (whatever £10 is in US dollars) unboxed.

If you are looking for boxed games then your forking out up to £80.

The consoles seem to range up to £30 this includes cables, controllers and a few games. If your searching for rare gems then your going to need to spend alot of money.

I've been looking for Super metroid and it is fairly expensive as well as the Castlevania and Megaman games.

So it must be cause of the exchange rate over here that everything is so expensive for you all, i don't know.

I bought Sonic the Hedgehog on the Virtual Console. For some reason they slowed the game down, slower music, slower everything. I was disappointed.
