So, another Rob Zombie "Halloween" movie. Apparently it is his last, and he said he needed two movies to fill the vision he had for the franchise.

I actually liked the first one that Zombie did, although a good chunk of my soul wished that "Halloween" would have survived the remake explosion.

Anyways, this second one looks weird. I didn't see any shots of a hospital in the trailer I saw, just an odd looking Michael Meyers and Dr. Loomis and struggling on top of some sort of tall structure while Michael is getting targeted by snipers. Laaaame.

I don't quite understand the excitement over Rob Zombie, or why he would feel the need to remake even the first Halloween, let alone several entries into the franchise. I'm not dissing him you understand, I just don't get it. It would be like...I dunno, remaking the entire Alien trilogy. It just doesn't seem needed. *shrug*

I liked the first one, so I'm interested in seeing how this one turns out. From what I've read the sequel isn't going to be a remake of any of the older movies. It's mostly dealing with psychological stuff with Michael's sister, and how she is going crazy just like he did.

MORE DIFFICULT CHALLENGE:

Give me an example of a Rob Zombie movie that doesn't suck.

I can't stand the actress playing Micheal Myers' sister. The trailer kills it for me. Whiny bitch.

Yea, saw it last night. It was terrible. I didn't like the first one he made but it was at least watchable, this one was amazingly bad. The whole 'Michael seeing visions of his mother' shit was retarded in my opinion. I loved the original series (except for number 3) up until the one with Busta Rhymes, and although I didn't really care for Rob Zombie's remake, I didn't hate it, it was just a little different than what I expected. This new one is ABSOLUTE SHIT though. Seriously, don't pay to see it.

Actually, this isn't correct I understand it. He didn't say he needed two movies at all; he didn't want to do a second one but the studio said they were going to make a sequel with or without him, so he reluctantly agreed to do it.

I haven't seen it so I don't know if it's true or not, but spoiler:
It's my understanding that Rob Zombie just killed off as many characters as he possibly could to prevent them from making another sequel, since he didn't even want this one.

Once again, I think MovieBob has an excellent and balanced take on things:

http://www.escapistmagazine.com/videos/view/escape-to-the-movies/899-Halloween-2

EDIT: Am I the only one that can't get Escapist vids to embed? I've had this problem before--I post the correct code, and it looks fine, but the in the preview the final "" is cut off, and no amount of monkeying around with it will make that damn thing show up.

Jeebus, I don't know if that's true at all about Halloween. The discussion you overheard was about House Of 1000 Corpses/Devil's Rejects.

Also, Halloween III is a GREAT movie and it is actually keeping with John Carpenter's original vision for the Halloween series. Michael Myers was not originally intended as a recurring character. Carpenter wanted to turn Halloween into an anthology franchise, with each movie telling a different grisly tale, each one taking place on Halloween. Had they started this with Halloween III, it might have worked. But they opted to do a direct sequel to Halloween (perhaps the most direct sequel ever written!) instead. After the failure of Halloween III, Halloween IV later emerged with Michael Myers, but without the endorsement or input of John Carpenter.

That's a shame. The anthology movie series idea is quite brilliant, and could have worked beautifully.

I have not gone to see this yet but I have enjoyed every movie RZ has made so far.

Halloween III was awesome, my favorite in the franchise. Tom Atkins (the lead actor in Halloween III) is going to be at a convention I will be attending in Nov, can't wait.

It was a TREMENDOUS improvement over House of 1000 Corpses and had better effects and acting, but that's not saying much. To each his own, but I'd say it was far from fantastic.

I still really don't see the need for keeping those old franchises going. They all follow the same formula and really are about as interesting as watching paint dry. Honestly they were amazing movies back in the day but now they are just stale and overused. I mean what is the appeal about making them more violent? Dood

Devil's Rejects was incredible. I didn't care for House of 1000 Corpses really, but I fucking loved Devil's Rejects.
