I'm not angry nor excited about this. I never played the latter, but the former was so hard I could only beat it with Game Genie. This suddenness of releasing the Star Wars games in succession can only mean one thing:
sooner or later...ROGUE SQUADRON WILL BE RELEASED!!

Well, we still need SSB64 as Europe has had it for at least a month.

Really? Usually I'd say fuck Super Smash Bros, but if it's been in Europe, then you might as well be consistent.

This. I sunk so many hours into SSW. Sadly, my only real motivation trying to overcome the difficulty was to finally, FINALLY get to play with a lightsaber.
Then I discovered the lightsaber code cheat, and my life was much, much happier.

You know what was always a bummer to be about SSW?
I loved the sound of the Level 1 blaster Luke had. It sounded EXACTLY like the movie. The problem was.....that Level 1 blaster was the crappiest weapon in the game, so you never wanted to keep it. You'd always upgrade. None of the other guns sounded as cool.

I have SSW and i always had trouble with the second level heading to the sandcrawler until i realized theres an easier way to do it. Aka just scrolling from left to right and not actually moving shooting the Jawas.
Though i have never got past the boss in Escape Mos Eisley, unbeatable.
The last time i played i kept losing in Cantina Band.
EDIT: Also inside the Sandcrawler.
The level is fine until you have to jump across the lava before the boss. I ALWAYS FUCKING FALL IN. Luke decides to fucking double jump into it and i was like ffs. I just wanted normal jump. That is the hardest part for a while. The whole getting to Obi Wan is easy enough apart from the one bit where you have to jump across the crumbling platforms and the birds fucking knock you off. I have thrown the controller a few times at that part.
May have a stab at it tomorrow morning.

My experiences almost exactly, except I never had trouble with the GETTING to the Sandcrawler level. On the contrary, its one of my favorites. Climbing up, and actually inside the sandcrawler, though, is another story entirely.
It just occurred to me: is Super ROtJ already on the VC or something? I always hear that that's the best of the series, and it seems odd to me that they would release the first two without the third installment.

RotJ is not released yet. they want to do them in sequential order. so, expect it in the next 2 weeks.
at any rate, i never had trouble w/SSW after meeting up w/Obi Wan. right before the boss, and across the crumbling platform sequences (theres 2 i think) if you fall and hug the left wall, you find a secret cavern that had like 10 extra men. you had to shoot to make them appear or use your lightsaber, but i would stock up on those and have 99 lives to play the game with. i dont think i ever beat SSW, even though i beat SESB. and SRotJ is hard as hell.

I had all three games when I was a kid, and I was able to beat them all... on easy mode. In recent years, with my emulators, I've gone back and managed to beat SSW on Brave mode, still working through the other two... Even save stating like a bastard, I can't get anywhere in any of them on Jedi mode.

Super Empire Strikes Back is my favorite of the three. I hated the final level in Super Return of The Jedi where you had to fly the Millennium Falcon out of the exploding Death Star.

Empire was released this Monday, A New Hope a couple weeks ago. So I'd assume Return is on it's way.

Oh okay. From the title of the thread, I just kind of assumed NH and ESB were released at the same time, and they had somehow either left out ROtJ or had already released it. Thanks for clearing that up guys.

The Jedi difficulty is absolutely cruel.

you know something? something about the super star wars games just made me think to myself while playing them "THIS is super nintendo!"
I get the same vibe when playing the first megaman X. I can't explain it properly.

Haha I know what you mean, It's definitely just one of those definitive games that makes the system. Super Mario World and Pilotwings also give me that vibe.

Return of the Jedi came out today. Here's hoping Rogue Squadron is next two weeks from now.
