Seriously. I found out in the Chrome Hounds thread that SEGA was pulling the plug on the Chrome Hounds server. This is the final straw for me. Not only are they making shitty abominations of Sonic games, they shutting down a game with huge fan support!
Am I just overreacting to this, or am I justified in my anger?

Personally, I think if a game is released in which the company who releases it has to host the servers for mutilplayer, then they should have to keep those servers online for the life on the console. (ie Until the next generation of that console is released.)

At least I'm not the only one who thinks that. I feel like this is company not providing for the customers.
By the way, I loved the Dreamcast as well.

...there's a reason Bliz charges 15 bucks a month. Those servers are expensive.
If they're not making money on the game, and losing money on the servers, I can see shutting them down.

especially since SEGA hasnt made much of a profit lately w/the 'big' games they have released. MadWorld did terribly. im sure others did too, but i cant think of any at the top of my head.

MadWorld is fucking awesome. And Sega only published MadWorld, they didn't develop it.

I agree. Is it safe to say that the good old days of SEGA are over? The new Sonic games are a prime example.

You could play Yakuza and Yakuza 2. On the one hand, sometimes very boring and pointless, sometimes you drop a pouncing tiger by punching in the face.

This is why I'd like consoles just let people set up their own servers for games. It sucks that a game's online modes should die forever just because it's not making enough money for the developer/publisher.

This seems like the logical solution, at least for games with free online play. I'm not sure why they don't do it, unless they're worried about liability ("My game got all screwy from playing YOUR game online!") or it's not technically possible.

Didn't Sega just release The Conduit. I thought that was supposed to be good. Also Virtua Tennis.
As for shutting down the servers, shame on them. They should allow their fans and players the opportunity to host their own servers and continue their online experience without Sega.

the conduit received some good reviews, but its not selling as well as they were hoping.

1, 2, Caleb is coming for you. (Since I saw Cabal references in this article, I couldn't resist quoting everyone's favorite Cabal cultist/demon slayer)

I am thoroughly enjoying sonic rush on the DS. I don't know how new or old that is, but I feel that game got it RIGHT.

Last gen most games did but after halo 2 alot of developers switched to useing their own servers for extra shit (checking stats online on thier web site ect) and not allowing peer to peer hosting on its own.
Also some games don't have system-link. Mainly because most 360 games have a ping filter 33-60 depending on the game. This was implemented to deter people from using tunneling programs like Xbox connect and Xlink Kia for free multiplayer.
http://www.xbconnect.com/
Xbox Connect is a program that tricks the Xbox into thinking it is hooked up like a LAN, also know as system link. By downloading this program onto your PC and a router connected to both your PC and your Xbox you can play system linked game with people all over the world. Xbox Connect is completely free and is one of the alternatives to Xbox Live.
These tunneling programs (they're ones for PC games awell) insure the ability to play these game long after the companies stop supporting them and the consoles they're on.

what would be cool is if after tehy pulled the servers, they'd have a patch to allow people to THEN use tunnelling programs, or to set up their own servers.
