Finally, I will get a PS3 once I get some money and these are released. I was just waiting for it.

This new model is gonna retail at $299 and come with a 120 GB hard drive. Not only that, but the current model goes down to 300 bucks tomorrow.

2010 looks like it might be the year of Sony.

It's not gonna have BC. Besides, for that I have a PS1 emulator on my computer running perfectly, and I can just buy a friend's PS2 off him/her.

Anyway, we all knew this would happen-- It was pretty much Sony's worst kept secret for the past couple months.

I was dead-set on buying a 360 (Elite is also getting a price drop to $300, phasing out the Pro) as my first 7th gen console, but now, I dunno. (sorry Wii, I love you but you're last on my console priority list thanks to this news. =/)

Yea I was in a similar boat. I think I am gonna get the PS3 since FFXIII was optimized for it. I have had a Wii since launch, and as much as I love it, there are simply so many games I miss out on not having an HD console.

about time this is finally confirmed. now to save up some cash, but i'll probably end up waiting until GoW III is released. i dont think there are any killer apps @ this moment on the PS3 that i need to go out and splurge some cash. maybe ill just make this a gift for my nephews for christmas.

Well no Bc is a no sale for me I mean if they insist on not having it they should have ps2 games on the psn.

Also, I heard that backwards compatibility will be possible with a potential future firmware update.

Finally. I might actually purchase this. Their are a few games I have seen on the PS3 that I particularly like and it would be nice to be able to get one that isn't the size If it is backwards compatible that will just be icing on the cake.

Exactly, in 2009 most people can find cheap and easy ways to enjoy PS1 and PS2 anyways. I just want some sweet next-gen games finally.

If your keen on playing PS1 or PS2 games you should get a PS2. The last gen's systems last a fucking eternity, and you can get one for like $50.

This is bloody fantastic. I mean, I've been waiting for a new system to drop in price for a while, and I've been on the fence as whether to get the 360 or pay the extra cash and get the blu-ray player with my PS3. This makes the choice obvious.

I think many people (me being one) have this mentality, it's gonna push me over the edge to get a PS3.

Pretty much! It makes the decision a lot easier for me as I was on the fence too. I'm too afraid of the RROD and Microsoft's crappy hardware to go with a 360 at this point, and a slim PS3 for $300 is just too good to pass up.

Also, maybe it's just my bad luck, but I've had two PS2s die on me after only a year each so I don't think they last very long at all so it will be awesome if the PS3 eventually gets BC.

Exactly, and that is why I hate the "just buy a ps2" excuse. To get any kind of warranty or guarantee you have to buy a new ps2, the cheapest I can find is worth $100 and then only online.
So now $299 has become $399 if you want to play ps2 and ps3 games.

Dammit, the only reason I'd want a PS3 is for Metal Gear 4. Before, the high price made it an easy decision to not buy, but now it's within reach......

But I still can't justify buying the system for the 1 game I want to play.

Hmm i want a PS3 but they were way to expensive they've went down from £320 to £250 now but that's still quite expensive.

Have to wait til November now..

$299 is a great and very fair price point, many consoles have launched at this point including PS2 and the first XBOX.

Will it have a game I want to play? Seriously. The ability to play Drake's Fortune does not seem worth $299.

Also, I just bought my first PS2 a week or two ago. For the same reason: a console needs to have games I want to play to warrant a purchase. Now I can play Kingdom Hearts.

I hear God of War is good.

Developers are just starting to be financially able to really make great games for the PS3.

I really feel like Sony is going to do some serious work with the PS3 over 2010 and into 2011.
