Always select Final Destination as the level
For extra super douchebaggery, refuse to play anything except 1 on 1 matches. Do not use any characters besides Marth and Fox. Wave Dash whenever possible.
wow, you just summed up about 65% of the people i know who play smash bros. It's all about 'th3 sk1lls' with them, it's about domination rather then fun. I hate it when gamers get too serious for their own good.

These "serious" players just make me laugh. It's not supposed to be a serious game.

That's old news.
With Brawl the people at Gamers Guild usually play like that, except Final Destination isn't always the level, and it's not always the same characters. Lately, quite a few of them have refused to play the game 1 on 1, because they think that mode tries to pass itself off as a "real fighting game" when it isn't.

I'm surprised they play Brawl. Most "serious" gamers hate Brawl because there's no Wave Dash or L-Cancel.
And I know it's old news, but one of my friends wanted to have a Melee night at the end of the month with like 15-30 people, and this is how he wanted to play. I told him, politely, to fuck off.

Me, my neighbor, and our friends used to do 5 stock, no items, random level.
Of course, I'd fuck it all to hell, because I stopped playing to win a loooong time ago.
Items are fun, I've been forcing him to turn them on recently.

Then we'll see who's good at Melee.
not bad, except i usually just go RANDOM when i select a character. and those levels arent bad in terms of selection. these are basically the same rules we play with, except we have all items on + stock is @ 5 lives each.

My goal was to design rules that would irritate the hell out of so-called "serious" Melee players. Camping and stalling rules were added in as a necessity. And honestly, Coin Match is sort of a joke. Even people who play for fun hate Coin Match. Hell, I hate Coin Match. So it would probably be just a straight 5 minute time limit.
My normal house rules are any character, any level, ordered turns for level selection, 5 minute time limit, all items on, anything goes. Sometimes we'll shut off healing items.
Stock matches turn people into whiny assholes. People whine about level hazards. People whine about healing items. People whine about how it's not fair they accidentally walked into a bomb. People stall. People camp.
When the match is straight time limit, people play more aggressively instead of defensively. It's also more fun for everyone involved. No one wants to sit there for two minutes while the last remaining players try and item farm FTW.

Didn't you say that Brawl was the better game?

Fighting games don't have fucking items, I always turn them off.
Fighting games don't have 4 players at once, teams, time limits, tons of options, stage hazards up the wazoo, or a goal of knocking your opponent off the stage.
You want a "fighting game", go play Street Fighter. Items are 75% of of the fun (and the 25% that aren't fun, turn them off)
I keep requesting my friends to play a round of coin match just to mix things up a bit but every time i do people look at me like i've got the plauge or something.

SSB was never a serious game. I fucking hate all the people that take it too seriously. I don't particularly dislike any of the modes. I usually play on stock, but not so I can be a bastard and camp. Sometimes I switch it up and play a time match. Fuck, even coin matches are pretty fun every once in a while. The point of the game is just to have a bunch of shit happening at the same time. So what if you fucking die? There's so much shit I hate about the people that play that game. Just play it and enjoy it.

i hate campers. especially those that have a charge move and try to sneak up on you to cold cock you (i.e. Sam-ass, DK, et. al.) and i hate having to chase people too. especially on big stages like hyrule temple.
now, in order to alleviate the stock camping BS, we usually add a time limit of 5-10 minutes as well. that way theres no camping and people are forced to be on the offensive vs the defensive.
