While I think it would be really cool to see this done again, the majority of my brain wants them to leave it alone. I have heard people say the movie is dated and I think that's utter bullshit. I probably watch this movie 3 times a year and I never get tired of it, and I highly doubt a remake would be the same quality.
Thoughts?

I love the original, and I think it holds up well. But I'd watch a remake. But they need to keep the Luck Dragon EXACTLY the same.

Why are they remaking all of this 1980s stuff?? They need to hurry-up and do a remake of "The Hangover" ...it's already been out for a over month.

I completely agree. I wouldn't mind if it was updated in terms of graphics, but the look itself needs to be kept.

They better do this movie correctly. I could see it being re-made with some cool CGI elements but it needs to at l;east look and feel like the original.

One of the sad things about modern kid's movies, I think, is that *none* of them really 'feel' like the classics we grew up watching (same goes for cartoons, actually.) People are so obsessed with making a buck that they'd rather throw out a bunch of flashy CGI, a few fart jokes, market with McDonalds, and call it a movie. It's very, very rare to see something aimed at kids that has actual depth and intelligence. The closest we've gotten this generation is Harry Potter, I think. (Although, the movies tried to dumb that down too. Sigh.)

Anything that tries to remake a classic, near perfect film will ultimately fail. I agree with Miguelius that this will suck and is a horrible idea. I just watched Neverending Story last year and it still holds up, so remaking it is like remaking The Princess Bride; horrible idea.

I wonder if we'll finally find out what name Bastian gave the Child-like Empress.
And I pray the movie is no where near as bad as NES3, that movie was terrible. I would see this for nostalgia but i'm not getting my hopes up. So far many remakes of 80s movies have been meh at best.

This is exactly how i've been feeling for the past few years. Everything now a days is eye candy, CGI fests that rely too heavily on the audiences ADD as an excuse for lack of plot. Grant it, what we grew up it can be silly and down right stupid at times but they at least have a semblance of intellect, thought and care by the staff making the movie and cartoons. Today, Hawk hit it right on the money, no pun intended. A vast majority of thing geared towards kids today is just down right insulting to the generation it's aimed towards.

If you turn on the subtitles on the dvd, he screams the name "Moon Child." I guess his mom was a dirty hippie. That's probably why she's dead...too much peyote.

I am interested to see where this goes. The original was good because of the story, not because of any specific acting or effects. If they can improve upon the original without destroying it, then I am glad to see where this goes.

The plot in the movie is great, but the casting also gives something extra, and also indispensable, to the movie (I don't know what). One of the things that made the sequel suck was that they changed the actors, it's just like in "The Sandlot", without those specific kids, the movie would have sucked. So, I guess what I'm trying to say is that if someone wants to do a remake of this movie, they better find some charismatic kids instead of throwing in some Jonathan Lipnicki.

I have a feeling they're going to blow it. That movie can't be more awesome than it already is, even if they make Sean Connery voice the Lucky Dragon and make him say "but of course you are" when Atryu introduces himself.

The music and setting really make the movie for me. Both are going to change dramatically I'm sure. The scene with the two statues that shoot lazers is forever embedded in my mind and it will most definitely not be the same. QUIT FUCKING UP MY CHILDHOOD HOLLYWOOD!

I am willing to accept this, the first film only covered half the novel so I would love a full adaptation.

I doubt it will be as scary as the original. Over-protective parents would have a hissy-fit if you drowned a horse in a children's movie today.
