Edward should be named Spoony

What the heck, I'll go ahead and take Porom, you can name her "Hawk." She's not bad, and I do like white mages.

Got it.

And I should say, while I don't really like Edward as a party member, he's probably one of the more interesting characters in the game.

Wait, what? Are we suddenly putting up dibs for Final Fantasy 8?

I call Selphie.

Basically, way better than FF7, but everyone still prefers FF7 for some reason. It could be the fact that FF7 doesn't have Zell or Irvine.

Oh, could also be the fact that it dares to differ from the rest of the series by introducing an alternative magic/equipment/summon system.

Otherwise, a pretty damn good game.

Lol it took me 3:30 to reach Damcyan. I always ran out of MP in that cave.

Nothing really happened for me apart from Satsui dressing up as Nekoru all the time.

I way prefer FF7, although FF8 was giving it a run for its money on the first disc. After that imho it kinda fell apart. I liked the characters, REALLY liked the whole military academy/student aspect, liked taking the quizes and getting money as a "stipend" and liked the gunblade combat.

You know what ruined it for me game-mechanics wise? Drawing magic. Oh my god I hated that, and I think it soured me on the rest of the game. I really do need to give it another shot. I'm sure its not as bad as I remember. (7 still > anything but IX and VI though.)

I'd love to do VIII again (and I have it on PC, so I can do recordings), but every time I get the urge to play it, I get to about the end of the intro, and get bored.

Next up, if anything, will likely be 9.

And you can't rename Seifer.

If I can get things to work correctly I might do 6 eventually. Those "rename all characters as forum members" are awesome, though I don't really know why.

Of course, I'd wait until this one is finished.

Also, I'm not taking dibs on VI or anything, so anybody can do it instead if they really want to.

Moving on...

*Doc beats the shit out of a defenseless Arlock. Despite one blow out of four hitting, the mighty octogenarian still makes the bard cry.
*We manage to defeat the "harmless" Antlion with the strategy of Satsui attacking, Nekoru calling forth Chocobos, and Arlock hiding until someone needs a potion.
*While Ruthee recovers from Desert Fever, Arlock plays his Harp of Water Monster Summoning right next to the only water anywhere near the town of Kaipo. He defeats his inner demons, as well as the real one he called up, and becomes about 10% less useless.
*Nekoru learns Fire. Next on the list: Shoe tying.
*The party meets Master Monk Josh on top of the mountain, and right into the Mom Bomb fight, I figure out why Arlock has been getting his ass kicked more than normal...he's in the front row for some reason. He quickly takes about 150 to the face and goes down. I manage to revive and heal him after the Mom Bomb explodes (no mean feat in itself, for those familiar with Edward/Arlock's auto-hide irritation), only to have a smaller bomb explode on his head. Well, he took the attention away from the others.
*Josh, Satsui, and Arlock man the front lines against Baron's invasion of Fabul, leaving me with no healing at all throuh a wave of about 6 or 7 fights (stupid no women on the front lines rule). Things were fine until BMan showed up out of nowhere, kicked Satsui's ass, and ran off with the Crystal and Ruthee.
*While sailing off after the bad guys, Leviatan shows up, decides I'm enjoying having a full and useful party too much, and takes everyone away.

The party is just outside Mysidia, just Satsui, at 2:24.

Note, I've changed the name of the topic. Just saying.

Mysterious golems are closest thing in FF9 to a robotic detective, so I call Vivi. Not sure on the name though, probably RoNoir assuming a 6 letter limit.

Gah, my bad. Of course you do. He's my favorite character, so he's the one I immediately thought of, that's all. Embarrassed

Well, great, I'm not even 3 hours into this game, and another one is entirely spoken for. :/

Anyways, I'm getting a lot of errors along the lines of "Please insert a Playstation or Playstation 2 Disk" ANy suggestions?

Updates:

*No, those mages weren't friendly at all. I was assigned the child prodigies Fernin and Hawk to help me up Mt. Ordeals, however.
*Doc was somehow on the mountain too. Still as grouchy as ever.
*Managed to beat Milon, whose name I absolutely hate. Also managed to beat his undead Z form, without even stopping to heal first, but I had a bit of trouble.
*Satsui becomes a paladin, after an ass-whippin from his dark self (apparently hitting him resets the battle or something. Oops. Had to resort to breaking potions out). Doc also picks up more magical firepower than should be legal for an old man to have.
*Those mages aren't so mean anymore, and we head to Baron, where we find Josh, who has been brainwashed and attacks us. I frikkin WISH his kick attack was that strong when he was in the party. Anyways, some Ice3 spells will take down most any cranky kung fu guy.

Status: Outside Baron, Party is Satsui, Josh, Fernin, Hawk, Doc. With Josh having no stuff and us only have 6 gil, I think I need to get some money. Time: 3:30
