Graphic - includes entire execution:

http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=366874410234401688&q=saddam+execution

English televised version (does not show the hanging):

http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-8743523486173837640&q=saddam+execution

This sickens me. But, I'm sure somebody will be happy to see the video.

He got what he deserved.

And yes. I think the death of evil people should be televised, for people not just to gain closure, but sort of revenge.

I dunno...

"His troops killed [insert loved one here] in the Gulf War" or something.

Do you like Christmas? He tried to steal Christmas.

Did you know in 1983, he was secretly in cahoots with General Hudson Austin? It's true, it's damn true.

Did you also know, Grenada is sometimes called spice island. Cinnamon, cloves, ginger, mace, and especially nutmeg, providing 20% of the world supply, are all important exports. There is a nutmeg on the nation's flag.

Fact: You can't have Eggnog without Nutmeg.

Fact: You can't have Christmas without Eggnog.

Therefore: Saddom and The Cubans were trying to steal Christmas!

Your argument is very convincing Knyte. Unfortunately, I don't drink eggnog.

(GRAPHIC)

Saddam never did anything to me personally (except maybe give me a few chuckles through South Park), but he was responsible for this:

http://www.aijac.org.au/review/2002/images/halabja.jpg

and this...

http://www.habanaelegante.com/Summer2005/halabja.jpg

and this...

http://www.whoknew.us/archives/images/halabja.jpg

and this...

http://newsimg.bbc.co.uk/media/images/39107000/jpg/_39107538_grave_body203.jpg

Like I said, I can appreciate the fact that there is one less rampant mass murderer (reported to the tune of 1.5-2 million Iraqis in 17 years) walking on the same planet as us. Did the gassing of Halabja or the mass graves in Kurdistan/Shi'ite villages throughout Iraq affect me... not directly. But hell... those are people.

I'm pretty indifferent about seeing him hung. Am I going to go searching to find the video? No.
Will I run into it on the internet somehow anyway? Probably.
Will I turn it off or hide from it if I have the opportunity to see it? No.

To hell with Saddam. There are a lot of people who are glad he's dead, myself included. If someone wants to see him in his last minutes on earth because it makes them feel a small shred of justice for the shit he's done, then I say hand those people popcorn if they're so inclined.

Thou, because I am wroth, be not dismayed, for I shall win the strife, whoever circle round within for the defence. This their insolence is not new, for of old they used it at a less secret gate, which still is found without a bolt. Above it thou didst see the dead inscription; and already on this side of it
descends the steep, passing without escort through the circles,
One such that by him the city shall be opened to us.

The poll is: "Do you feel an execution should be televised?"

Basically, I'm reminded of "Starship Troopers" where one of the commercial advertisments is for an execution that will be live on CourtTV. Should things like that actually exist? It seems so cheap, so show-bizzy. The reasons to watch executions live (or recorded) on TV seems a little sick. I can't even watch the footage of Kennedy getting shot anymore. Watching any crazy Joe get executed seems so meaningless.

Now, Saddam. He's one evil son of a bitch and most of America thinks so. We went to war because of him, so shouldn't we be allowed to see the bastard die? In action movies, we always get to see the villain blow up in the largest explode the budget will allow; why should real life be any different?

Maybe Valdronius had something with his statement: "He didn't do anything to me." In executions, normally only the families of the victim and exectued are allowed to witness them. Since the majority of America didn't have anyone directly killed because of Saddam, why should they be allowed to view something that's still regarded as private?

But I have no stance. Part of me wanted to see the ass die, but hearing he was dead felt fine too. Whichever.

I feel the need to mention that I didn't go looking for the video, because I didn't really care to see it anyway, but my brother IMed it to me, and I didn't know what it was when I clicked on the link.

I guess it makes me feel better to say that. Kinda like it may make people feel better to see Saddam dying... and in this case the victims families being able to see the execution could get tricky, they wouldn't all fit in one room... oh, it hurt to say that!

This is the first execution that I actually want to see. In every other case I've thought it was sick to televise such a thing, but for some reason, watching him die is extremely appealing to me. Make whatever judgments you will from that, but it's my opinion.

If he had died action movie style, it would have been way cooler. A hanging is a hard thing to watch. They should have done it True Lies styles. Saddam should have been strapped to a Patriot missile on a Harrier jet flown by President Bush. Then Bush could have yelled "You're fired!" and launched him at one of the old Iraqi palaces.

The guy was a major bastard, but I disagree with televising his execution. I don't want to see it.

It'd have been televised if someone thought they could sponsor it without taking a huge lashing from the public.

Other than that, watching it is just sensationalism.

There never was an image here, what the fuck are you talking about?

"booo hooo capital punishment. Booo hooo I don't want to see saddam's hanging. boo hooo inhumane legal system"

a) nobody's fucking forcing you to watch it.

b) did you forget that this muderous bastard willingly took the lives of his own people, including women and children, without remorse? how can you be upset with the fact that he got what was coming to him. everybody is so worried about capital punishment and whether or not it's right, and totally ignore the fact that the guy deserved to die,no matter how you look at it.

But what about the risk of teaching our youth that killing evil dictators is wrong?

Who will fill the world's already overcrowded jails and pollute the minds of other inmates, all while getting 3 free meals a day and living out the rest of their lives on other peoples' dimes?

WHAT IF PEOPLE LEARN RIGHT FROM WRONG?!?

/sarcasm Rolling Eyes
