Anytime I disappear from the board for longer than a day or two, its for two reasons: I'm either practicing for an upcoming show, or I bought something new. The latter, in this case. I finally, FINALLY got my vastly overdue state tax refund check and went pawn shop dominating and rebought an NES, an SNES, a Genesis and an N64, and as many games (none more than $10, haha... not even Final Fantasy 3... gotta love pawn shops) and so far I have just burned through my old school NES. I've finally beaten many old schoolers I never had before like Bionic Commando and the first two Ninja Gaidens, and I am just about speedrun fucking caliber on the classic Marios, the first two Zeldas, Kid Icarus, Metroid, etc. I guess skill and old knowledge doesn't fade with age.
I tell you all this to tell you this: its probably a safe bet that not a single one of us has ever beaten Battletoads legitimately. Ever. I picked that one up hesitantly at the pawn shop, thinking, 'why bother? I'll never even get through this without savestates or an emulator!' But, inspired by old school skills I'd long forgotten I had, I bought it and managed to get past the speed bike level that caused so many broken controls as a 10 year old.
So I sayeth unto you, fellow Syd Lexians, I am inspired. I will legitimately beat Battletoads. It may take days, months, even years. But I will do it, dammit.

Not only is that not right, that's not even wrong. It's a meaningless statement. Saying something is "one molecule away" from plastic is like saying a farm is one letter away from a fart. Water is "one molecule away" from being explosive hydrogen gas. |

I've done it, and let me tell you...if you have old school gaming skills...which is sounds like you do since you beat Ninja Gaiden, you'll be surprised how quickly your able to memorize Battletoads which is all it really takes to beat it. If you stick with it and play consistently, you'll have it done in about a week I would guess.

Same thing with me when it came to Battlemaniacs. It took a week or so of practice, but I managed to beat it.

Battletoads is just like Ghouls N' Ghosts, once the game's memorized, it's cake. Just don't play with a second player.

I disagree. Ghosts 'N Goblins is easy once it's memorized partly because there's a scrolling glitch you can exploit. Even once you've memorized Battletoads, you've got to have very quick reflexes. Many of the racing levels, particularly the one where you're running from that giant dinner mint, are VERY unforgiving.

Oh!! And make sure you load up extra lives at Level 2, once you get the timing down to hitting those birds you can get so many extra lives which well help you out considerably later on in the game!

I'll have to agree, I beat battle toads on an emulate, a friend of mine beat the game on the nes, but he used the teleporters.
To beat the game without using teleporters is very hard, some levels are ridiculous, again i did this on emulate so maybe the keyboard was harder to turn than a controller i'm unsure.. but when you're on that uni-cyle bike, and you're being chased, it is very unforgiving.. I beat the entire level without any saving in the level, only the start.. so basically when i played I saved at the start of a level and replayed it until i beat it. Then once i got to the next levle saved again at the start etc...
So I beat it more llegitimately than what could have been exploited but i still did in essense give myself infinitel lives that restart at the start of the level.

I'm currently on a similar quest with Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, although I must say I'm dissapointed with the "infamous" water level. Not even close to as bad as people made it out to be, in my opinion.

Hope you're playing TMNT on an NES, and not on an emulator with your super responsive, super precise arrow keys.

I can do it now (on my NES) with only one turtle taking about half damage or so. But back when I was 7 or 8, I refused to play that level, I made my neighbor get me through it every time.

^ Ok, I'm not THAT good at the level.
And I'm playing it on VC, where I find the Wiimote slightly more difficult to use than the NES controller because of how weird it feels when you play it sideways (in my opinion, at least).
I usually need at least 2 turtles with full lifebars to sacrifice themselves, but I'm getting better at it.

when i used to play that game when i was younger, i would save mike for the water level. since his range sucked ass, he was only good for that stage.

Just because a character's range sucks ass doesn't mean they're unplayable. Raph had even worse range, but he hit almost as hard as Don.

I find Mikey more useful than Raph because he's good at dealing with the smaller enemies around his feet. He just plows straight through them.
I think Raph's the fastest, though.

Actually, I never once had trouble with the underwater TMNT level. However, even when I'd take the time to load up with scrolls, I couldn't pass that last Technodrome corridor with all the fucking jetpack guys. I beat it legitimately... twenty years later.
As for Battletoads... consider that fucker demolished. I can't believe I didn't have the patience to finish it way back when. Battlemaniacs is another story... my controller must suck, because the part where you're racing the rat guy on the unicycle thingie is still giving me trouble.

I had trouble on the when you're on the unicyble beign chased and you have to time your up down (directions) just right to make smooth clean turns.
And I had a keyboard, and it was bitch, i don't tknow if my timing was off but it took me many attempts.. eventually I could do it and repait it fairl easily.
If battlemaniacs is a seperate game I haven't heard of it. I know of battle toads double dragon beat that as well..and it's pretty tough.
