I think it depends on the PG-13 movie. As for R-rated movies, I'd agree with most of them. |
Yeah, I'll agree with that. For example, LOTR is a perfectly acceptable first movie.

Your mom is one of those people huh? Bringing babies to PG-13 rated movies MumLexia? For shame. |
Well, that was more of "my other two kids haven't got to do anything fun since the new baby was born and I can't afford a babysitter". The movie was loud, Kris was quiet, and it's not something she remembers. The first movie she saw in theaters that she was old enough to comprehend was either The Hunchback of Notre Dame or Hercules. And I stand by what I said. You don't take a toddler to see My Bloody Valentine 3D or a five year old to see The Departed just because you want to see it.

Yeah, I remember the scene when a boulder fell on "The Bear's" mom's head when she was trying to honey from the bee's nest. I only saw the movie once, at the theatre and I remember that vividly.
I remember seeing Mr. Mom in the theatre, but I would have only been 3 years old at that point. That very well could be my earliest memory.

Fuck if I remember, I was so young. I was thinking it was either the July 1985 re-release of E.T. or one of the many 1980s re-releases of classic Disney movies. I asked my mom, and she said the first movie she remembers taking me and Jeebus to see was Fantasia, which was re-released into theaters in February 1985.
The first movie Krislexia "saw" in theaters was Jurassic Park. She was 3 months old. |
The first movie that I recall seeing was E.T. I screamed my fucking face off in terror.

Man, I would have LOVED to have had the opportunity to see one of the original trilogy when they were first screened, that's history right there.

Yea, I wasn't even born until 86' so I kinda missed that boat.
Although I did catch all the digitally remastered re-releases in theaters in the mid 90's.

If it was Empire Strikes Back, things would most likely be different.

The Land Before Time (1988). It was my 5th birthday and I remember having all the toys and bawling when Littlefoot's mother died.
Never seen any of the sequels though, despite there being like...18 of them.

DONT! I tried watching 2-6, after 6 i couldn't take it anymore. They water it down to the point where there is nothing but a puddle of mediocrity and add songs left and right. They add terrible disney esque songs . . . to Land before time! The sequels have none of the drama or the dark tone that made the original awesome. I could go on for hours.
If i haven't convinced you not to watch these abominations yet then this will:
All 18 sequels are Direct-to-DVD. Enough said.

Yea and we can't forget that crappy little tv series they had for those movies, but there are some definitely varying first movies here and most are unexpected to be for little children. Now a days though parents would be ridiculed to death if they ever brought their 3 year old child to see a pg-13 movie.

There was no such thing as a PG-13 rating when I went to my first movie.

You just don't know what happens when you take a 7 year old to see Halloween H20.
That movie seriously fucked me up. And the fact that some of it was based in Illinois did NOT help. I skipped halloween that year too.
I blame that movie for making me paranoid till this day.
What helped? Daydreaming The Rock & Stone Cold doubleteam Michael Myers and beating the crap out of him.

Neither am I, but I've always enjoyed Star Wars (well, 3 of the movies, at least). But oh well, to each his own!

Only space-ish sci-fi thing I can recall being big into is the Phantasy Star game series, but other than that, being weirdo spaceships and funky lookin aliens usually turns me off.

Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace. Also, I saw it twice for some reason, and fell asleep both times.

Lucky you! I bet it would've been fun watching that on the big screen, although I probably would'be been scared if I had seen it as a kid back then.
I also have yet to see an movie in IMAX theatres. I wanted to see Dark Knight at one point, but it didn't happen.
