My internet gave me this warning about excessive internet sessions. It suggested that this is a Blaster Type Virus. I scanned my computer and it found nothing. Does my family just have too many computers on the network?

What did you use to scan your computer? Also, how many computers are on your network?

I used McAfee. We have three computers, has not worked for nearly a year. It's a laptop that was dropped.

I have two desktop computers (soon to be three), a laptop, a Wii, a smartphone, and occassionally a DS or two on my network and have never had this problem. Do you have a firewall set up on the network? Depending on its settings, that could be fucking you up.

Yes, I have a firewall. Also, I forgot to mention, the Wii is set up to our network as well, we just don't have the internet program on it.

I assume you mean the web browser?
If the Wii is on your network, it is using your internet connection to access the Weather Channel, the News channel (if you have it), the Shop channel, and a variety of other things.

Yes it is. So, my computer still works fine hours after the virus scare. Does this mean I'm fine or is it a slow acting thing

It could just be a fake security alert. Download either SpyBot or Malwarebytes Anti-Malware and see if they find anything.

I ran a scan, reviewed its findings, and deleted the spyware.

Is your antivirus product up to date? It is important to find out the last time it was updated.
Also what OS are you running? If it is Vista then you have Defender built in and you might want to see what it says about your malware situation. If it is XP then I would suggest you get Defender as a starting point to avoid malware in the future.

They all speak wisdom. I see you've already done it, but yeah, Spybot is a great program. I love it personally.
GP, quick question on what you said: I wasn't under the impression that Windows Defender was much good (based on reading some tech blogs). Is this incorrect?

Just too be sure I ran all the virus and spyware scanners again. The result: nothing. I think the problem has been solved.

As far as catching Malware, it isn't as good as Spybot or Adaware. It is however made by Microsoft and therefore plays nicer with Windows than any other Malware utility.
There is always a balance between security and functionality. You need both, but where is the line drawn? Personally I think that a person who runs a hardware firewall, a software firewall, antivirus, and some malware utility should be fine if they aren't doing stupid things. Within a year Microsoft will be releasing their own Antivirus and the last three of those items will be free from the people who make your OS. That is how it should have always been.

When I run Spybot, it displays names of programs alongside the progress bar. Is this spyware I have or that it's checking for? When it finishes scanning, I found no evidence of the listed programs.
