One of the reasons why it's doing so poorly is that the majority of the worthwhile games developed for it are ported to other platforms (namely PS2), diminishing the draw of purhcasing one.

i recently bought one of a friend of a friend for $100. not a bad deal imo. he gave me the media manager + need for speed: carbon, and tiger woods golf. and hes gonna hook me up w/some movies once he locates them.
anyhow, any suggestions for games to pick up? im already planning on getting god of war, and i recently picked up castlevania: the dracula x chronicles.

You know, I actually love my PSP. I have almost all the games on Ba'al's list up there, but I think the best part of all is that I DO have a PS3 on a wireless router with remote play turned on.
Or, to boil it down to the essentials, if I leave the right disk in, this means as long as I'm somewhere else with an internet connection, PORTABLE FINAL FANTASY VII. Which isn't the best of the series, but since I have portable versions of all the other ones worth mentioning on DS already...
Also, Chrono Cross. Fuck you, I loved it.

Not only is that not right, that's not even wrong. It's a meaningless statement. Saying something is "one molecule away" from plastic is like saying a farm is one letter away from a fart. Water is "one molecule away" from being explosive hydrogen gas. |

What the hell? I had completely forgotten about this thread until it got resurrected today. Oh well, I might as well make an update on my post since we're here:
| Ky-Guy wrote: |
Eh, the Wii is good enough for me. I mean, yeah, it does try to attract casual gamers, but I still think it's a hardcore gamer's system too.
My thought on this matter is that Nintendo is just trying to make sense out of the high-definition, 3-D graphics thing that is apparently a necessity in video games these days. At least Nintendo is/was trying to throw things around with the Wii Remote, even if it didn't work as well as Nintendo planned. [strike]The XBOX 360's controller is essentially the same as the original XBOX's and Sony doesn't seem to be implementing the motion sensors in the PS3 controller anymore.[/strike]
To be honest, I only have two complaints about the Wii:
[strike]1.) Lack of Sufficient Memory: This is a real problem for me because I tend to go overboard on Virtual Console titles. The Wii can only hold so many games before you have to delete some of them and make room for others, which is tedious as all-hell because in order to play them again, you either have to A.) re-download them from the Wii Shop Channel, or B.) re-upload them from your SD card, should you have one.[/strike]
[strike]And as for one final kick in the balls, you can't directly access anything from the SD card. If Nintendo doesn't come up with a firmware update that would allow us to access content from the SD card, I may have to start sending death threats.[/strike]
2.) The Motherfucking Friend Codes: As you may have noticed, I went a bit ballistic and made an Animal Crossing: City Folk desperation thread, because I apparently need to give my friend code to a person and need his/her friend code before I can play a game of hide-and-seek. If we could at least register friend codes through the Wii Message Board, or better yet, have no friend codes at all, I wouldn't have had to make the thread. If only I could hack the Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection, I would register everyone onto my friend list. |
As we all know, about half this post no longer applies anymore for various reasons:
1.) Microsoft is making motion sensing controllers for the XBOX 360 now. I've even seen pictures for it. I don't think it'll be as versatile as the Wiimote, though.
2.) I'm pretty sure Sony is still implementing motion sensing into the PS3 as well.
3.) Nintendo pretty much fixed up the memory issue by letting us directly accessing the SD card. Now we're only limited by the capacity of the SD card.
But we already knew all that. In fact, the only reason I'm mentioning them is because I want to bring that old post up to date.
And one more thing: We all know about the PSP Go, right?
And one last question: How do you cross things out in Sydlexia's boards?

The memory complaint is still valid.
Nintendo never advised companies that they would be adding support for high density HD cards to their system. As a result, neither Rock Band 2 nor Guitar Hero: World Tour support them, and cannot be patched to do so because the Wii still doesn't support game patches. So GH:WT and RB2 can only use 2 GB cards, which means you can't download whole albums or track packs. And you can only fit 2-4 songs on one 2 GB SD card.

While that may be true, the memory problem is pretty much fixed for me, as all I really download are Virtual Console and WiiWare games. Actually, most of my downloads are Virtual Console games. Also, I don't have that many songs on the SD card since I love video game music anyway.

Guitar hero/Rock Band songs. A 2GB SD card has 15000 blocks of space. The songs take up about 180 blocks each, so you can fit around 80 songs on a card.

Are you sure? That's fucking weird. When I tried to download a song before, it told me there were like 600 blocks on my (I thought) empty 2GB SD card and the song would take up 182 blocks. Why don't they offer song bundles then?

You download it onto the Wii's hard drive (which was what the 600 blocks of space were for) first and then it asks if you want to save it onto an SD card.
As for the bundles, it has to do with Nintendo not wanting any redundancy or people accidentally buying the same song twice... or some crap like that.

Ah, well then. Embarassed face.
But that's still a shitty reason not to let me download Chinese Democracy all at once.
