From WENN.
Horror icon Freddy Krueger has a new face - actor Jackie Earle Haley has signed on to play the villain in a new Nightmare On Elm Street movie.
Twenty five years after Robert Englund debuted Krueger, Watchmen actor Haley will slip on his famous mask in a new sequel due to start shooting in the U.S. next month.
It will be the 10th Nightmare on Elm Street movie in the franchise, which has also spawned two TV series.
10th Nightmare on Elm Street movie? I only counted 8 including Freddy vs. Jason.

Did you count New Nightmare?

Yes, the films are:
A Nightmare on Elm Street
Freddy's Revenge
Dream Warriors
Dream Master
Dream Child
Freddy's Dead
New Nightmare
Freddy vs. Jason
and this remake.
Unless they were counting the television series, "Freddy's Nightmares", they are wrong.

Its a huge stretch, but maybe they counted Jason Goes to Hell since Freddy sort of had a cameo. Well, at least his glove did for a couple seconds.

Why can't Robert Englund reprise the role? It's not like his age makes much difference under all the makeup.

I was thinking the same, plus he is not all that old. He is only 62.

There is no Freddy other than Robert Englund for me, so anyone else is a step down. I also don't see why he couldn't come back and do it one more time.

I agree with this. Although he is no Englund, it is not like Sean Connery was the only man to portray James Bond.
I will definitely give it a shot, I thought Jackie Earl Haley's performance as Rorschach was the best aspect of the Watchmen. Point is, the man is a great actor.

Same here, I'm sure he'll do a great job. In fact, he's probably the only reason I'd see it.

Gay.
Englund or no one. I MIGHT have been willing to accept Billy Bob Thornton.
If they ever do FvJ2, they BETTER use Englund.

Can't even see anything. It probably won't be bad or good, it'll be generic and mediocre, just like all the other forgetable horror movies and remakes they do now.

I'm skeptical about this one, mainly because they've chosen a director with seemingly little to no experience for the project. Take a look at the guy's IMDB page sometime, it's shameful. Granted I could be proven wrong, but is it really so hard to find a veteran that wants to do the job? The same goes for the new Freddy actually, although he did a good Rorscarch. I'm firmly in the "Englund should always be Freddy" camp though so he's really gonna have to pull out all the stops until I say it was a good choice.

EXACTLY! It's not like Englund hasn't done Freddy in 10 or 15 years. It's only been like 6 years, right? I guess his character is different than that of Jason or Michael Myers where he is recognized by his face and voice, which gives more reason for him to reprise the role. And that "First Look at the new Freddy" WTF that could be me for all anyone knows, it's basically a fucking shadow. What fucking teases.

Heh, well usually when I give my unedited opinion on horror remakes someone always gets defensive. This place is probably safe but I didn't wanna risk it.

I hate horror remakes about as much as I hate mononucleosis (kissing disease), and that's saying something on my part. You're a-okay in my book.

I think the Texas Chainsaw Massacre was the worst of all the remakes.

I can't stand it myself simply due to my loyalty to the original, but there are far worse. The Wicker Man, The Omen and the recent Day of the Dead remake being on the very top of the shitpile.
