YES! There's nothing quite like getting excited over the fact that amphibians just started developing on your planet. Plus, it can be a pretty good educational tool; before I started playing the game, my eleven-year-old-self had no idea that land animals had originated from the ocean.

This exactly.

Mario 64 really pioneered the 3D platformer, and Banjo Kazooie perfected it.

I have read that people hated "Shadows of the Empire".

That game was fucking golden when it came out, I don't give a shit what anybody in the world says. I would probably fight to the death with a dull butter knife to defend that games honor.

Mega Man X6, while I will agree with every complaint about it, the terribleness somehow just added to the mood of the game, I can't quite explain it. Plus I like how Sigma really didn't have anything to do with it that time.

Well, I don't know if it's necessarily hated, but nobody seems to talk about Wario's Woods. I love that game a lot.

Anyone ever play a game called Time Commando? That was the first game I ever played on PS1, I've always had a special place in my heart for that game. What few reviews I saw on the game seemed to knock it.

Yea, I still love this game, alot actually. This was the first N64 game I got (with my own money) and was thoroughly pleased.

Bringing down AT-ATs is so damn satisfying.

Dude, Time Commando was awesome at the time. I had the PC version though. I remember you started out in caveman times wielding a club and advanced up through the future. It was heavy.

Shadows of the Empire is one badass Star Wars game. It also earns major points for not being directly based on one of the films.

yes, that game was fun. especially the hoth level. the 3rd person ones could use work, but the boss fights were fun. i hated how the star destroyer on the final stage used to show 100% every time you shot it, so it made you believe there was a way to actually damage it.

Hey amen, I liked this one. I liked it better than Zelda II which was similar but I don't think as good.

No one mentioned Destiny of an Emperor. That was my favorite game on the old NES. I like it even more than the first Final Fantasy.

Shadows of the Empire pissed me off because there's a mission where you have to save Luke from being assassinated, and YOU NEVER GET TO SEE HIM. I don't know if it was Lucas's decision or something, but many of the more popular characters from the series are mentioned, and you're apparently in direct communication with them, but you rarely actually see them.

But overall, it's a really fun game. And it had the best debug code EVER. Sorry, Sonic.

The one on Tattoine where you have to kill all the other guys on bikes and finish the level within a time limit.

And no, I did not skip the cutscenes. IIRC correctly, the only time you really see much of the main characters from the Original Trilogy is if you blow up the Death Star on the hardest difficulty. Fuck that. The game was hard enough on the regular difficulty.

Don't you mean the Skyhook?

I don't really care what it was. That level was massively unfun.

The train though, that one was fantastic.

Shadows of the Empire was a fun game when I played it as a kid. I always thought the Skyhook destroying mission was really cool because you got to take part in this epic space battle... well, sort of epic at least, and kinda re-enact the Death Star II reactor attack.

I also recall hating the train level with a passion and the following level being pretty annoying as well (Gall Spaceport, the most inconvenient spaceport ever built where the only way to get from point A to point B is to cross bottomless fucking chasms using a jetpack). The swoop bike level on Tatooine, however, was a lot of fun, as was Battle of Hoth.

It's amazing how many of life's problems are solved by indiscriminate cannon fire.

Hoth was awesome. I fucking hated the swoop bike level. The Skyhook battle sucked. The controls were not well suited to the mission.

Fighting Boba Fett is easily the highlight of that game.
