Goddamn remakes. Remaking a game ruins it's fucking magic, and that obviously does not apply to just games. I remember when they did a VGA remake of Police Quest and it was fucking awful. Quest for Glory 1? Remade. Kings Quest 1? Remade. This shit is getting out of control, and it makes my heart weep.
Seriously though, sequels are OK, and these games never get old. Thank god for DOSBox. I think a Grim Fandango sequel would be fucking splendid.

Well, at least while playing Secret of Monkey Island: Special Edition you can always press a button and it instantly changes back into the original version.

I'm going to have to disagree. It really depends upon the game and who is working on it. Metal Gear Solid - The Twin Snakes, for example, was really good.

I disagree too. Some games don't need to be remade, but most classic games made before, say, 1992, are almost unplayable now due to how spoiled we've become from modern games. Seriously, go back and try to play the original King's Quest 1, or if you're feeling really adventurous, KQ3 with the old school text parser, and time how long it takes for you to either become incredibly bored, or start bashing your head against the keyboard. We just don't have the patience for that shit anymore.
So I welcome any remakes that polish up the graphics, update the text parsers into point and click, and just make it an overall better experience. Cursing remakes and updates to really old video games is like cursing DVD in favor of Beta.
I'm looking forward to both the MI remake and the new stuff. I'm currently playing through them (playing Curse of MI atm) and while I enjoyed the first one, the remake should be awesome.

I believe the VGA remake of KQ1 still used the parser. The parser wasn't an issue. KQ1 needed to be remade because it was ugly as fuck. Same with KQ2. KQ3 was the first game in the series that holds up in it's original form, graphically.

I'm glad that this series is getting a continuation. even though I liked the 4th one, it didn't quite fullfill my need of swashbucking baffoonery.

Some re-makes aren't bad, especially PC ones. I don't feel like downloading crappy user-made mods that give it a 50/50 chance of running on a new system. I'm getting these games four two reasons:
1) Awesome games
2) One of the people working on it said they would consider re-releasing a lot of the different Lucasarts adventure games if Monkey Island did well, which is good news because my copy of Grim Fandango hasn't worked for a few years.

I'm really glad the Tales of Monkey Island episodes will be coming out on the Wii as well, as I don't think this computer can run anything that was made in the last three years.

The original police quest was full of win, I don't care how ugly it looks.
The only problem I had with the VGA remake of it was the driving, they fucked that all up.

I just find something extremely wrong when a whole generation of people are crying "Holy Balls, they are remaking Day of the Tentacle! I can't wait to replay a game that I just played 8 years ago, but this time it'll have moar purty graphics and moar purty sounds!"
There is also something wrong with developers and designers getting so lazy that all they can do is fall back on a recently lucrative franchise and hope a remake or sequel will sell as good as the first one.
Come on guys, you all get paid well enough, do your fucking job.

Well, I ended up getting Tales of Monkey Island for the PC instead of Wii after all, since the demo showed that this game doesn't have huge system requirements and works absolutely fine on a four-year-old computer, even on the highest resolutions and max detail level.
Just finished the first episode a moment ago, can't wait for the next one to come out. The humor wasn't quite as funny as in the old Monkey Island games and the puzzles were pretty easy (I'm a total moron, so I got stuck once or twice anyway), but this was definitely more enjoyable than Escape from Monkey Island.

So I suppose this "Monkey Island" is the birthplace of "How appropriate, you fight like a cow!"?

What are the system requirements? I couldn't find them.

I'm not 100% sure if it's where the retort first was spoken, but it's certainly where it was made famous.
One of the major premises of the series is "Insult Swordfighting". You need to throw out an insult when you attack, and to defend, you need to speak a comeback. If it's the "right" comeback, you defend and throw your own insult out. You learn the insults and comebacks by picking fights with other pirates...they speak the insult, you learn it, you use it on other pirates, you learn the comeback (if they know it). Then, once you learn enough insults and comebacks, you find the Swordmaster (or whoever else fills that role in that particular game), who has different insults...but you still answer with the same comebacks.
"You fight like a dairy farmer" and "How appropriate, you fight like a cow!" are the first insult and comeback Guybrush learns.

I went to Futureshop last week to buy Tales of Monkey Island and they had no idea what I was talking about, so I figured it hadn't arrived yet for whatever reason. This weekend I happened to be in Toronto on business and I stopped in the Futureshop but they didn't have it either. Finally, today I went to the local Gamestop and the punk ass kid hadn't even heard of the Monkey Island series let alone have the new game(how do you work at Gamestop and have never heard of Monkey Island).
So this question is for all you Canadians, have any of you guys bought this game yet? or am I just having hard time finding it. I'm starting to have my doubts that it hasn't been released in Canada yet or atleast my city.

You need to download it. I don't think it's being released in stores.

I don't have a Wii, so where would you download it for PC?

Any reviews on Tales of Monkey Island? I gotta say I'm tempted, but if there's any Monkey Kombat in it I think I might just shoot myself.
