Hey, I was wondering if you guys could help me with this problem. I recently applied at my local library to be a page (putting books back and stuff), and now I'm going in for an interview on Tuesday. My hair is fairly long, maybe down to my shoulders, and down to the base of my neck in the back. My mom says I should put my hair in a ponytail when I go in, but honestly, I look like a douchebag. My hair in the front isn't long enough to go back so it always dangles in front even if I put it behind my ears. I figured you all had more experience than me doing this stuff, so should I just go with my hair back, or say "fuck it" to my mom and go in how I always look?

Shave your head, and tell them you donated your hair to cancer patients. better yet, actually donate your hair

Honestly, I've had long hair pretty much my whole teenage life, I don't really know any styles and I don't want to go through a bunch of gay haircuts. Plus, I'm sort of fat and my hair covers up some of it.

I shaved my head for swim and it was long. Turns out it looked better short.
But if you dont want to cut then yes pulling it into a ponytail would be the best option
I would recommend reading GPs article on job interviews
....I forgot what his sub-domain is. He never wrote any other articles so it was forgotten

My hair goes down past my shoulders and yet I keep it neat and clean. When I go in for a job interview I make sure that it's pulled back and clean-looking. I don't think long hair should be a problem in most cases as long as you show that you can take care of your own body. If a guy goes into an interview with long messy hair it shows that he can't invest the time to make himself look presentable. Same goes for girls. Long hair is long hair. Brush it out, keep it clean, and pull it back to prepare for jobs that would normally require you keep your hair pulled back. That's the way I see it.

You absolutely need to make sure it looks nice, it's extremely easy to come off as one of those lazy rocker types if your hair is all messed up and crap. I'd imagine pulling it back into a ponytail would be better as well.

If I ultimately decided to keep it down, I would make sure it looked nice and was clean.

I'd recommend getting a perm, and possibly putting ribbons or bows in it.

I think if you have to ask yourself whether or not you should cut your hair for this job then you should cut your hair.

Seriously, as someone who has interviewed people, get girly with your hair- use good shampoo and conditioner so your hear looks clean and neat, and get some light mousse and pull it out of your face. If you look like one of those greasy, dirty Dragonforce fans with the frizzy hair and forehead acne due to your hair, you're most likely not going.

If the job has anything at all to do with being around food, cut it for sure.
Otherwise, if you want to keep it, clean and style it like already mentioned, and be sure to pull it back into a neat ponytail. That'd be your best bet I think.

For most jobs, it really doesn't matter. If it is clean and well-styled, if your overall hygiene is good, and if you are dressed appropriately, long hair shouldn't hurt your chances of getting a job. We live in a society where ridiculous piercings and garish tattoos are becoming more and more commonplace. If some chick with a butterfly tattooed on her wrist can get a job, I don't see why you wouldn't be able to do so.
Also, this is a fucking library. Librarians are notoriously liberal, so having long hippie hair might actually help your chances of getting the job.

Or you could pretend to be like really, really Super Jewish. Get a hat and some fake Super Jewish dreadlock thingies. If they don't hire you, begin a posting campaign on Monster, CareerBuilder, and Craiglist saying that (Company X) is full of Anti-Semites. Before you know it, the Anti-Defamation League will be on their case like hobos on a ham sandwich.

Silly Syd Lexia, most Jews who bother to grow pei'ot ha-rosh are unable to eat ham.

your hair is fine. especially for a library job. as long as its not all crazy out of control, you should be fine. but a ponytail would probably the safe route, and once you're hired, you can wear it however you want.

I look at it the exact same way, I feel the same about cutting my hair (my hair is about 3/4 down my back), I assure you though, I am no hippie.
