Who the hell needs a map for the original Metroid? I always just backtracked the hell out of that game and explored every nook and cranny. Come on people, the original Metroid isn't that hard. It's not that big of a game, there's only like four or five areas in the game to explore. No map required. Maps will only make the game shorter and less fun. Be a man, don't use a map. And, if you don't have an NES, buy the VC version.

I completely agree with this. The map is generally too small for me to really get lost.

i agree w/this too. the only part you have to worry about is that one part that has nothing but buzzy beetles or whatever they are and you need the freeze gun to get out of.

I still stand by ZM, as it has both games.

I'd say go with both as well. The original is terrific and Zero Mission is a great game on its own plus it has the original as an unlockable.

It takes you 3 months to decide to buy a game?

Get Zero Mission.

Zero Mission. It's the only one that can even hold a candle to Super Metroid.

Then if you feel like torturing yourself, the NES version.
As has been mentioned, the original Metroid is unlockable in Zero Mission, so you could always play it that way too.
