So we had a Canada Day thread (which was awesome), we gotta have a 4th of July thread. FEEL the national pride!

^ Laughing I honestly was hoping someone else would make one. I always end up making the dorky patriotic threads, and wanted to break that habit lol. I guess I waited til after midnight to speak up. Ah well.

No matter. Happy Independence Day everyone! Cheers!

Fuck you, man. Americans don't need to be on time for shit. We're America.

In fact, we had July 4th on July 3rd this year. Because WE FUCKING CAN.

(Seriously. Check a calender. The federal holiday was the 3rd)

EDIT: She forgot the most important video:

To celebrate the 4th I went up to a lake and anchored a huge raft with beer to a pontoon boat in the middle of the water. Later in the evening there were fireworks coming from all directions around the lake as we watched from the center with a full 360 degree view of the whole thing. It was pretty awesome.

I was going to make the thread last night while I was waiting for fireworks, but it would have been pretty lame to ignore the people I was physically with. Plus, I wouldn't have put in as much effort as you did Hawk. I think Bill Pullman's speech is up there with one of the most patriotic ever. Happy 4th of july!

Me and my neighbor stood on opposite sides of Main Sreet with Roman Candles and shot at each other. It was awesome.

This may sound like a good way to get arrested, especially since fireworks are illegal in Massachusetts, but it wasn't. We did it while all the cops were downtown keeping order at the town's official fireworks display, which usually attracts a few thousand people. And if they don't see you physically shoot off the fireworks, they can't/won't do anything. And unless you're a complete asshole, they usually let you off with a warning even if they do.

Anybody else here old enough to remember when stations went off the air and played the Star Spangled Banner when they did? I have looked for the version they played around here on Youtube and can't find it. It had to be at least 40 years old, but it a truly beautiful version.

Roman candle fights are the best. Too bad our police around here are assholes.

I had to work on the 4th, however I managed to see a few fireworks over the treeline of my neighborhood from work. I walk to and from work since its so close. Anyway, as I was rounding the final curve of the road to my house, 2 of the houses on each side of the road had those kinds of fireworks you make a base for and they keep sparking and popping for a good 5-7 minutes. Walking between those houses made me feel like I was about to enter the ring. Oh, and here:

I would really like to hear that, actually. I have yet to find a version of the Star Spangled Banner that I truly, truly like. Don't get me wrong, its our anthem and I love it for the meaning it has, but as a piece of inspiring music...not so much. Confused If you know of a version that sounds really nice, I'd be very interested.

Same thing here. Used to break into the roofs of buildings or tailgate on top of parking buildings for the local fireworks shows growing up. Didn't steal or vandalize (well, you did have to cut locks sometimes), just watched fireworks, so people didn't really make a fuss.

So here's to you Mrs. Robinson. People love you more- oh, nevermind.

I was on a boat in the middle of a lake watching the fireworks with a policeman who lives in the town. In fact, it was his boat and his idea to go and watch them.

He pretty much said that on the 4th of July unless someone complains, the police aren't interested in arresting people over fireworks.

I hung out with my girlfriend for a few hours until my buddies came over and we lit off fireworks in the parking lot, then we went to go see my town's fireworks. It was a pretty good night.

Mine sucked. My car died early in the morning, then at night I went to a party that had about four guys and two girls, none of whom I was interested in talking to. I ran from "cops" when I heard a knock on the door, I was half-a-mile out before someone called to tell us it was just someone going to the party. It was three dudes, and they had weed, so I decided to leave. Problem was, because my car died, I couldn't drive home, and none of the people at the party were in any shape to drive, so I walked four miles home. It took me an hour, and I didn't get home until around 3:15. While I was walking, some asshole threw a firecracker at me that went off about a foot in front of me. That was pretty dangerous.
And the whole time, there was a party down the street with tons of my friends that I was supposed to be invited to, but the guy inviting me forgot to send me the text.
But at least I bought albums by Motorhead and Frank Zappa earlier in the day. That made up for it.
Oh, and as for the perfect version of the National Anthem, fast-forward to :33:

Is that your natural reaction when hearing a knock on the door? Yell "COPS!" and do a shoulder roll out the bathroom window?

Sadly, when I'm at a party, yep. I am one jumpy dude. It mostly has to do with Texas's zero tolerance laws: Even if you don't drink (which I don't), you can still get an MIP if you're in the general vicinity. I had a very close call during my second semester at UTSA, and I'm still shellshocked (for lack of a better word). Although the host of the party raising both middle fingers in the air and yelling "Battle Stations!" when the knock happened probably didn't help to dissuade me that cops were at the door.
Oh, and I forgot to mention that my brother was complaining about walking to church the next morning, and I was like "BOY I JUST WALKED FOUR MILES IN THE MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT YOU QUIT YOUR WHININ'!" I'm such a caring brother.

Also,
