A while ago I remember seeing a SNL cartoon about Mickey Mouse taking them through all the flaws of Disney, before finally coming to how racist "Song of the South" was, to which Mickey replied "He was who he was. But hey kids, I've given you plenty of laughs over the years, right?" To which the kids reply "you're supposed to be funny?"
Yea, it might be an uninspired cheap shot taken by dumb kids who don't know anything, but it still indicates that Mickey isn't exactly worshipped as a God anymore.
Anyone have any explanation as to how this happened?

Mickey was NEVER funny. Even in the olden days. Mickey was only entertaining when he was off on epic adventures like The Sorceror's Apprentice, Jack & The Beanstalk, or The Brave Little Tailor.
But Mickey vs. Bugs Bunny is a lot like the Beatles vs. the Stones. Mickey might have been groundbreaking, but he also safe and kind of boring, and most of his stuff is extremely dated. Meanwhile Bugs Bunny was edgy, cool, sarcastic, slightly badass, and thusly imbued with a more lasting appeal.

Did you ever find Bugs Bunny attractive when he would dress up like a woman?

Mickey was not always wholesome, that came later. I don't know what the cartoon is called but I saw it referenced in my Donald Duck boxset, Leonard Maltin was talking about how Disney needed a grumpy character because parents were started to get offended by Mickey or something like that, then it cut to an old black and white scene of Mickey swinging a cat around by it's tail, much to the cats dismay.

Yeah, Mickey's kind of a cock in some of the early ones. There's also the newspaper strips where he teases suicide for like 5 strips.

Would you say that is akin to the Mario vs. Sonic argument?
I never really liked Mickey or Disney in general, I just really hated the style of super kid-friendly and cutting to songs in the middle of scenes. I especially hate the latter, alot.

I always preferred Donald as a kid because of his temper.

Looney tunes always had a bit more something. I want to call it edginess but thats not quite right, it invokes in my mind airbrushed mall T-shirts of tweety bird with attitude as favored by fat women.
The characters had a bit more personality. Thats why one of the better disney cartoons was ducktales, with its greedy caring cheap adventurious curmudgeon of a main character. Mickey is bland, donald was easily frustrated, and goofy was stupid.

If you go back and watch the unedited Looney Tunes, you'll see lots of stuff that they couldn't get away with in kids cartoons today. Just the level of senseless violence alone, especially in the Tom and Jerry cartoons. Everything is too watered down now, I think we are regressing.

Also the racism, watch some of the Tom and Jerry cartoons with the Mammy stereotype syaing "Now Thomas, I want you out O-W-T out!" and if they still show it, it's now a proper white woman who spells it correctly.

Yeah, but Sonic is "90's" edgy. Bugs Bunny is just a sarcastic douche that likes to fuck with people.
On a side note, you think there's a 2-drink minimum at the House of Mouse?

If we're talking early 90's, then yeah, Sonic was definitely cooler than Mario. But these days, Mario is cooler.
One big problem that Nintendo has always had is the lack of dialogue in their games. Watching Mario & Luigi fucking PANTOMIME in Superstar Saga and Partners In Crime is one of the most fucking painful experiences I've ever had. The worst part: those games are actually quite good despite that.
The explanation has always been that Nintendo characters don't have any significant dialogue because they feel it makes the experience more personal or some shit like that. Unfortunately, the opposite is true. Mario, Kirby, and Link need to flat-out talk. None of that monosyllabic bullshit, either. I got really excited when I saw the Metroid: Other M trailer, because it has dialogue. It's about fucking time!
Nah, Link should never talk. If they gave him a voice it would ruin it.

That's actually an argument I've heard that ruined Sonic for most people.

The people who complain about the voice-acting in Sonic games are really setting the standards pretty low for something to be bad. Believe me, I have seen much worse in video games, just take a look at some of Capcom's infamous hackjobs like Mega Man 8 and Devil May Cry.

Exactly, I am just finishing up Partners in Time (having already completed Superstar Saga) and yea, it gets old quick. Especially the few repetitive words they do speak..."Babies!!", "Luiiiigi?!"...uggggh.
And also, yea, I got very stoked when I saw The Other M trailer as well. I recall in one of the interviews I read with the devs coming out of E3 saying something about how this game will reveal more about Samus than any previous game and will be much more personal, you gotta love Team Ninja. I can't wait for it, especially when as excited as I am for Galaxy 2, I must admit I was a tad disappointment when I heard that there wouldn't be much to the story (even less than the original Galaxy).
I just hope they ramp up the difficulty, I got all the stars a little too quick in the first Galaxy.
