I love "treasure hunting" at thrift stores. I can't even begin to count all the things I have found in them. My latest aquisition was a Dlink wireless G router for $5. It is now intergrated into my home network and I am now surfing on my Blackberry at WIFI speed.

I just posted this with my Blackberry.

What treasures have the rest of you found?

I love yard sales and flea markets to. I always buy like a bunch of 50 cent movies, some recorded from tv so theres crazy old commercials too, which are cool. The best thing I ever got at a yard sale tthough, Secret of Mana for 1 dollar.

You can definitely have some incredibly cheap and rare video game finds at thrift stores.

I have been known to acquire clothes there as well...

An old Fender Precision bass for about forty bucks. It sounds wonderful and it's in awesome shape. The one thing I really like about it is that it feels heavy in a good way. The neck is also very nice. I don't know what kind of wood it is made from but it looks great and feels sturdy.

Probably for their young grandchildren, or nostalgic purposes. How whacky is that? Man, crazy old people.

One day I bought what I called the "beverly hills special". FOr 50 cents each i acquired, on vhs :Beverly Hills cop 1 and 2, Beverly Hills Ninja (rip Chris Farley), and the Beverly Hillbillies. I've yet to watch any of them but it seemed like a good idea at the time.

Never been in a thrift store, I've usually found all of my deals by simply being in the right place at the right time. For example, buying a Dreamcast at launch and waiting in the line all early in the morning, tipped me off to a sealed copy of Simon's Quest for the NES in the GS used bin for $4.99.

I bought both of the good NES Ultima games at a thrift store together for next to nothing.

Sega Genesis with SEGA-CD was available for twenty bucks at my uncle's pawn shop, I need it, hopefully it'll be still there next time I go. There were Dreamcasts for the same price too.

I am trying to figure out the insanity that is Goodwill's pricing. Some things are awesomely cheap. (Like routers and network switches, which usually are priced for around $5-$10, when they still sell new for $50.) But, then right next to the cheap router will be an older compaq computer that has a Pentium II 166MHz CPU, 256MB of Ram, a 4GB HDD, and a CD-ROM. (not burner) selling for $100.

My other recent treasure I found was a pristine condition AD&D 1st Edition DM's Guide for $5. It's not like it is worth alot of money or anything, but I was something I needed to add to my RPG book collection. (Though, I do have a few valuable books, Like a 1st Print "Deities & Demigods" book that has all the Cthulhu Mythos without credit to Chaosium in it.)

The Goodwill here mostly sells clothes so I've never got any good electronics or anything. I did get pretty nice army jacket for $5 though.

Clothes mostly. My entire wardrobe from 9th-12th grade was from the Goodwill. The shirts were awesome if you could find any that didn't have old man pit stains.

The salvation army in my town is very inconsistent with pricing. For instance, I picked up a sega genesis for 15 bucks with all the cables, but right next to it was a beat to shit surround sound system going for 75.. which is probably close to it's retail price. Same thing with furniture, but i'm less inclined to buy furniture at the Salvation Army, as I can't verify the previous users level of hygiene.

The neatest thing I ever found at Goodwill was a working-condition The Thing lamp.

Super Mario Kart, Super Mario All-Stars, Super Mario World, Yoshi's Island, Donkey Kong Country, Donkey Kong Country 2, and Pilotwings for $1.50 each. Sure, some labels had seen better days, but Super Mario Kart alone goes for around $40 at the local game shop.

Also, at the same pawn, a copy of the hilariously bad movie "Showdown in Little Tokyo". Brandon Lee as a wisecracking (and I use that term loosely) cop, and Dolph Lundgren as some weaboo, team up to stop evil Yakuza criminals from selling beer bottles filled with meth! Also, Tia Carrere's tits.

I actually bought an original Early Bird Star Wars kit from a thrift store for a freaking dollar. It has everything in it except the actual certificate to mail away. It is in good condition too. The cards were separated from the display base, but for a dollar I am certainly not going to bitch about it. It has the stands, stickers, cards, and all the other inserts that were in there.

Brandon Lee seeing a naked Dolph and going "that's the biggest dick I've ever seen."

Or, Dolph tells Tia "you won't see me coming" when he puts her in some safehouse or something. Then later they bone down and she goes "that time, I saw you coming."
