I was just tossing an idea around in my head and was wondering what the general consensus would be.
What would you think if after the current NES Challenge we changed it to a year round weekly event. There would no longer be a mandatory submission and people could play as much and as little as they wanted. I would take forum member challenge suggestions from time to time, and there would no longer be a need to worry about what place your in, after all this has just been for fun anyways.
Personally I think this would be a really cool forum "exclusive" we could have. I can't see this getting old or losing its luster because there is an assload of games and tons of possibilities, especially with your input. Videos would still be loaded, and I think the challenges would/could get a lot more creative without having to worry about who's playing and if it's "too hard".
Thoughts?

If people are still interested in it we can put the NES challenge on sebatical, or just keep it going for those who don't want to participate in the SNES one. Hell there may even be a Genesis one. People could do both if they wished.

That would be the general idea. If we used every nintendo game once we could have a new game/challenge for 15 years straight.

This sounds like a promising idea. However, the scoring would have to be done monthly or something so newcomers won't be turned off by certain a-holes... I say yay.

I don't even think I wanna do a score system just so people are able to jump right in without a handicap, but I may do like an achievement type thing that we could update on the wiki, maybe like most achievements completed at the end of the year gets a Sydlexia Medal of Honor.

It's actually much simplier now that everyone is on the same emulator and I haven't had to update a gigantic spread sheet with numbers. This promises to be much cleaner and quicker with the turn-around.

I kind of like it as an annual or semi-annual event. I could go for more frequent challenges, but I still think there needs to be a break between them.

I agree too.
The break also increases anticipation in the next one, and you don't have to think of 52 Challenges every year around the clock, but 10 once a year.
Suppose you decide to move on and leave the site? Who would take over the year large task of all that? In the short term, I think it's a good idea, but not in the long term when inevidably life will get in the way for some of us. A smaller more compact Challenge, I think, would be easier to maintain years from now and keep it a good constant annual feature of the website.
