So the latest little gimick might not even hit us at all what with Japan being so far ahead of getting these games:
"If you send over the special Pikachu-colored Pichu from the 12th movie release event (given away between June 19th and July 18th, a special event will occur. This event takes place in Ilex Forest, as you pass by Celebi's shrine with the Pichu in your party, a Notched-Ear Pichu will appear. There's no information as of yet if this is just a story event or if it adds any new pokemon to your team." |
Pikachu colored Pichu? What? I don't understand...

It's a special Pichu with markings that mimic a Pikachu's.

Okay, here's the latest info:
* Even though the games take place and follows the general storyline of Silver/Gold, it uses the standards of 4th Gen battling (attacks are no longer keyed to either Special Attack or Attack by Typing alone).
* You can actually assign ANY pokemon to follow you, not just your starter. Whatever pokemon occupies the first spot in your team will follow you around on the map.
Furthermore, if you turn to face them and press A you can get a sense of its mood, if it needs health, etc. Lastly, as they walk around, occasionally the follower pokemon will find items on the ground for you (like the Amity Park in Sinnoh).
* New areas in Johto, which will allow you to catch Kyogre in HG, Groudon in SS, as well as Rayquaza, Dialga, Palkia, & Giratina (no word yet on Celebi though )
* Both games come with a new peripheral, the PokeWalker. Think of it as a cross between the Pokemon Daycare in game and the Hey You Pikachu pedometer. You can transfer a pokemon over to the Walker and raise its experience with every step you take.

I want a remake of red and blue damnit. If they are going to make remakes, doesn't it make more sense to start from the beginning?

Yeah...plus Red/Blue/Yellow are overrated for being the original, but Silver/Gold were the games that perfected it. Not to mention I like the starters better in them...also, Groudon being in Silver only pretty much cements me getting that version.

I'm going to buy these games as well once they come out, I just hope they kept the radio stations in. I always thought that it was a neat function.

Be that as it may...
The more contemporary Pokemon (even if they can be kinda cool) can never hold the same place in my heart as the original 151.

I'm not getting this. I really like the gameplay, but that whole "do X in real life to get Y" just pisses me off. Maybe I could just stop trying to get everything,
but then why the hell would I buy this game if I already have Silver? If I can't get everything, the game is just fucking incomplete.
Unless they give you challenges like beating level 100 trainers, or force you to use only Pokemon of one type for some battles. Then it could be worth buying.
I still have to beat Red in Silver, so I'll just do that first. I'll just train my Feraligatr or something. Probably really easy now that I know how to not play like crap.
I'll get 150 Pokemons too, so that it stops bitching when I try to tranfer them to Stadium 2. I have like 140 anyway.

Some of the original 151 pokemon were kind of useless, IMO. Can you honestly tell me that you've ever seriously considered using a Farfetch'd?

First of all, I love Farfetch'd (and Mr. Mime), but thats besides the point.
I love the original 151 because I just associate them with that whole awesome time when the whole Pokemon concept was so fresh and new.

I actively used Farfetch'd a good bit on my copy of Leaf Green, even taking him with me against the Elite Four.
Funny you only stop at 151, when Ken Sugimori also designed and drew all the pokemon for Gold and Silver as well.

I don't stop, (I am playing through Platinum as we speak), they just are not as special to me. By this level, they have essentially "mimicked" all the animal in nature and these new Pokemon are just shapeless and forgettable.

It's a four-legged banana terror, you don't f*** with that. Aside from Chiko's weirdness, even then Totodile and Cyndaquil were the most badass starters ever.

Who doesn't like a dancing baby crocodile? I always used Totodile as my starter. Croconaw was kind of boring however it was worth putting up with to get Feraligatr.

True. Cyndaquil is definitely one of my favorite starters, I just think flaming porcupine thingys that evolve into flaming dog (?) type thingys are awesome.

For those with fond memories of Silver and Gold I bring more offerings:
* You can still see the guaranteed level 30 red Gyarados in the Lake of Rage.
* Surfing has you using the standard sprites from the 4G games (instead of somehow leading the way)
* Eusine, from Crystal, appears in the story similar to her appearance in Crystal's storyline about the Three Beasts (Entei, Raikou, and Suicine) of Johto.
* Just a rumor right now, but Mewtwo, Latios and Latias may be availible in the game as well.
* Both Lugia and Ho-Oh are level 45 when you can catch them.

I loved my copy of Crystal. Now I've just got to decide which one I want. I never really found Lugia or Ho-oh that interesting as legendaries. I think I'll just choose the copy with Kyogre.

That was a sad day for me.

Oh crap! I forgot about that! I've had mine for a few years now. What is the average life of the internal battery?

Looks like its time for me to get back on the Pokemon scene. Can't wait for these! (Especially Silver, probably my favorite Pokemon game of all time.)

Silver was the only one I had, and I had a blast playing it. Then a co-worker borrowed it and got fired several weeks after. Needless to say I never saw my copy ever again and that's when I stopped playing.
Oh and welcome to the forums

Notched ear? So it escaped from a laboratory, or is being tracked by scientists or something?
Sadly, the only Pokemon I've every played is Firered/Leafgreen and Emerald on an emulator. I'd love to have a nice console one though, that would be amazing. Of course, then I couldn't trade Pokemon with myself to fill out my 'Dex...
