so, my internet on my computer has been down almost a week. In that time, as I delayed and thought about how to fix it(stupid wireless networks) I played a lot of Starcraft from the Battlechest mentioned here before
So, let's get some discussion going, maybe even hook up a few games with other people...
I'm a Protoss player.
I can play Zerg, having had my ass kicked numerous times by a pretty damn good one in years passed. I definitely understand them more than the humans.
Terrans suck. I like their Siege Tanks and Battlecruisers the best.
There. Some generic generalizing to kick this thing off

I'm all about the Terrans myself. Maybe its just because they're the first race you play so I've gotten to know them the best, or because I appreciate their mobility and adaptability (and their heroes), but I've always loved them. I've never actually played a game online though. Don't know why, just never really got around to trying. I'd be up for an attempt sometime, although I'm not sure my style of play lends itself to online competition.

Starcraft was awesome when it came out and still is today. As far as getting a bunch of people on here to play, forget it; I can't even get you guys to stick with Diablo 2

Unlike Diablo II, I still have my copies of Starcraft and Brood War, so...yeah. I was a Zerg player before I quit a few years back.

I think you play at different times than they do.
More Starcraft:
I like to play Brood War. I can't imagine not having some of the things from that expansion.
Zerg Favorite Unit: Lurkers
Favorite Weapon: Lurkers again,
Protoss Favorite Unit: Carriers
Favorite Weapon: Dark Archon Mind Control
Terran Favorite Unit: Siege Tank
Favorite Weapon: Siege Mode

Wasn't there a Nintendo 64 version of Starcraft?

Yeah, but it fails miserably for lacking online play and a level editor, the two best things about Starcraft.

ICCUP is the way to go... it's a free alternative to battle.net, blizzard's official online starcraft community play site, and it has typically better connection rates, from what i understand, as well as better players. Many actual pro play on their.
I suck though and am like a D rank and falling.... I also play protoss, and have the most trouble verse terrain, namely verse dealing with siege tanks effectively.
I can deal with the air, the drops, the bunkers, the vultures.. the siege tanks have posed a threat that i haven't yet effectively overcome.. I think the best way to deal witht hem, is probably arbiter's, or whatever unit that can do the statis field on them.
Once your close to the siege tanks you're fine.. my issue is setting up that opportunity when they're are like 10 of them with detect invis, and anti-air units nearby.
i guess a stasis field followed by a zealot rush or droping would do the trick, and that' shat i've been told to do... i'm just not that used to using arbiter's.
i have some wholes in my game, namely mid-game, and using some units.... I'm fairly compitent, with the games economics, positioning, the use of zealots, dragoons, archons, and drop ships.. but I need to use more Corsairs verse zerg, and arbiter's in general.
To be fair i'm pretty new to the game, but do find it to be a lot of fun, and like a side a low D rank on Iccup at the moment.
I've only won 2 matches out of the 15 i've played on there.
My username on Iccup is jilow... but similar to you, i have internet issues, and can't get a constant stream of internet connection at home right now.. so online games don't work so hot for me.
Been messing around on a bunch of old NES games actually... Recently beat magic of sharizade (it's alright, has a legend of zelda feel to it, but a bit worse), also beat Astanyax, fun game I remebered beating playing it in my child-hood.
On a completely unrelated note, i recently saw pulp fiction, the movie, for the first time.. and boy, i'll have to say i was missing out on a movie that's been around for 19 years, I highly recommend it.

Protoss seem slower at developing units and will probably fall behind compared to Terran and Zerg. Obviously, this creates a really hard time against Terrans using Siege Tanks around your base or at your front door. I think it's easiest to pump out Zealots to deal with them since they don't use gas. At that time you should be fairly close to Dark Templar and can better handle the Tanks that way.
Zerg is definitely Corsair. You want air-to-air. Their Guardians can be brutal in groups with huge range air-to-ground. Scouts seem to work fine for me as well, since the Guardians can't fire back and usually eliminate enough Mutalisks to make them worth the resources in a pinch. Mutas also have to exchange fire with photon cannons while Guardians can hang back while still in range. So if you go Scout, pick the battlefield and make the Mutas fight both.
Zerg typically kills me early game though So I'm lucky if I get to the Scout/Corsair air battles. Zergling rushes and mass hydralisks do a lot of damage. It's the support of the Dropped Lurkers that ultimately kills me though.

Zerg and Protoss are pretty much two completely opposite strategies, one is mostly defense-based, and requires alot of time to get fully upgraded, and the other is mostly offensive, and can pump out units like it's nothing.

Verse Zerg basically one I scout their base... I figure out how much they're going economy or zerg rush.. PErsonalyl verse beginning zerg players I find two gateway rush owns them hard core. And then start developing the +1 attack upgrade for the zealots in the mean time, which will let you 1 shot zealots.
If you don't want to go that route, because either you know the rush will fail, or the distances is to far from your base to theirs, or it took you to long to find their base.
I'd recommend an early canon... perhaps even have a canon by your base be your built before a gateway.. that will fend off a zerg rush, if htat's what your'e worried about.. then worry about scouting out new bases of zerg, attempting to harass them.... expand to at least two bases, then start harrassing with corsairs.. eventually start with drops. Makes sure to use a few observers to help you scout as well as your corsairs, before doing a drop in an area.. also observers can help with finding expansiona nd seeing the lurkers...
After little while of having my zealots i basically switch to the lightning guys, and only really go dragoon if I see them going air, maybe a few dragoons so i have smoething if i see air, but ya mostly zealots and the lightning guys, adn eventualys archons.
That's the gist of what I do...
I think though many wins can simply by doing a two gateway rush on zerg, especially if they're trying ot expand to much at the start, and it's also helpeful in defending against a zerg rush.
In Mid game, I think biggest thing with zerg is really attempting to harass a lot, and hurt their many many expansions.

I'm all for the old Command and Conquer, Tesla Coils rock my socks
Starcraft is in a different league though. If any of those troops saw a Zerg drone coming they'd run for cover.
