I straddle the line between geek and nerd. I'm sociable to everyone, but as soon as I stop thinking of a girl as a friend and start thinking of her as someone that I might try and date, I feel like someone who just started playing chess going up against Deep Blue. I lose all sense of spontaneity and have to plan out every conversation in advance. It sucks.

Wow, that is the exact same problem that I have. I've never seen someone describe it so accurately! Surprised

I have absolutely ZERO social skills in real life, due to a combination of smothering/verbally abusive parents and a school about the size of a pinhead, filled with retards. I prefer solitude to hanging out with douches, and consequently I am always alone and looking like a loser. If somebody would fucking talk to me for about 30 seconds I would certainly have some friends in the real world. But in the real world, I'm more ignored than an empty coke bottle laying on the sidewalk. I seem to be able to talk to people online, though. Thank god.

I'd say "Oh, come on, it's not that hard", but then one of my friends could say that about my problem.

Have YOU ever tried talking to somebody who regarded you as a piece of furniture? But like I said, there are about 75 people in my school and they are all ego-tripping assholes, stoned, retarded, or too stuck up and pretty to talk to a smart kid with self confidence issues, so I would rather be alone. Being with tolerable, intelligent people, such as on this site, I become normal myself. And I was sure as fuck too hasty saying "I have zero social skills" on my first post.

Do you mean that you're being intentionally ignored by people, or that you just don't make an impression? Because if it's the former, then Christ your school must be full of dicks.

Yeah, it's the former. This is one of two reasons I am transferring to a new school next year.

I bit my tongue, but was thinking the exact same thing.

No... just no.

You don't point out what's being referenced. That's the entire point of a reference!
