That is amazing. I'm not sure if it is intentional though.

Holy shit!
How could that NOT be intentional? I mean, that would have to be the biggest coincidence EVER. Either Conan, or his designers, are closet Mario fans. They gotta be.

It's amazing that some one looked at that background and immediately though, "Mario"! I'm a huge Mario fan and never would have noticed that...it is pretty incredible though...

Well, the first image of a Gundam Mk. II ever televised was this:
In 1998 (Zeta Gundam didn't come to the US until 2004). This image was made by the graphic designer at the time, who was apparently a big anime and video game fan. So, if they're using the same graphic designer it probably is intentional.

Haha, cool.
Keep in mind though guys that you're looking at a collage of mostly non-existent Super Mario World and Mario All-Star scenes, and that the water in Mario looks nothing like that. The giant cloud in the top right is also completely made up.

This is 100% not a Mario background, but they should 100% change it into one.

Yeah, it's cool, but it's 100% fabricated and this was not anyone's idea when the designed it. The sky doesn't have diagonal lines through it like that, the clouds don't look like that, and castles are neither that close to the flag, underground like that, or so clearly fraudulently inserted (Same with that purple block).

Pierre Bernard made the trip to LA, so he's still there, and is still a major geek. I still think it's a cool coincidence though.
