Alright, so I got my DSi about a month ago and have looked into a majority of the major titles.
What I am interested in are the hidden gems, or in another words, great games that simply flew under the radar for whatever reason. I generally trust peoples opinions here, so what do you suggest??

Henry Hatsworth and the Puzzling Adventure.
It's a very solid platformer/puzzle hybrid that starts off easy but gradually gets harder as you progress. The difficulty on the later levels is a turn off for most people however fans of old school platformers should be able to appreciate it. The game also has some of the funnier bosses I've seen.
EDIT: Bust-a-move DS isn't a bad choice either. I don't know how many hours I've wasted playing that game.

I've heard that Hatsworth is overrated.

Wow...really? The boards on Gamefaqs for it are small at best. I honestly thought it was overlooked. Either way it's not that bad and I stand by what I said.

I'm just basing this from what I read from various user comments and other forums I found searching the topic on google.

I always thought that it flew under the radar due to it's release date being so close to that of Pokemon Platinum, Suikoden DS, and one or two other game I can't remember. It's kind of surprising but that's the way it goes I suppose. Bust-a-move DS is a good time waster that doesn't see much attention, that's always worth a try.

Super Robot Taisen: OG Saga Endless Frontier, or any of the other SRT/SRW games (though they're TBS RPGS).

Playing it now and it is quite the fun game.

Picross was pretty fun, but only for the one playthrough. I used to like that and the Castlevanias when I had a DS.
Oh, and a remake of Impossible Mission is on it too, and it includes the original version too.

At this point, I think I am going to look into metal slug.
I want a random platformer, as I am currently overwhelmed with the plethora of RPGs.

I've been collecting DS games for a long time now, both real games and... well, I think you know. Check out my list, I think it's pretty comprehensive.

You say "hidden gems", so I'm gonna skip the obvious (all Kirby games, the 3 Castlevanias, Grand Theft Auto) etc.
Bleach: Dark Souls. Super fucking awesome DS (up to 4 players) fighter by Sega and Treasure.
Megaman ZX Advent and Star Force 3 (wait for it.)
Retro Game Challenge. 'nuff said.
Disgaea.
Bangai-O Spirits, another awesome Treasure game with giant robots and missiles flying everywhere. It's an Itano Circus in your hand.
Ketsui: Death Label, for bullet hell action. Only good shmup on DS.
Dragon Ball: Origins, doing Zelda: Phantom Hourglass' control scheme over 9000 times better. (note, this is a Dragon Ball game, not a DBZ game. you know, when it was very funny, characters actually grew and fights weren't beam-tossing matches.)
I second all the Super Robot Taisen (Wars) games including Endless Frontier. Very fun SRPGing with awesome battle scenes. For the Japan-only ones (W and K) they have menu translations, so it isn't hard to play them if you know none of the language. If you're a fan of mecha anime, or just wanna see robots beating the shit out of each other, check it out. (Extra incentive: W for the DS has FUCKING LION VOLTRON. And it's awesome.)
Legend of Kage 2, leagues better that the original.
Tokyo Beat Down, for your beat 'em up fix.
Space Invaders Extreme 2. Don't question me, just try it. NOW. Perfect to trip out or get stoned and play.
Trackmania DS, one of the best looking and most fun racers on the thing.
Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon, remake of the original FE NES game that never made it over here.
Advance Wars: Days of Ruin, ultimate refinement of the series. With online and voice-chat!
Flower, Sun, and Rain, 3D adventure game by Suda 51 where you're on some hotel island and have to stop a bomb.
Exit DS, awesome puzzle platformer (but not in the same way as aforementioned Henry Hatsworth)
Puyo Puyo 15th Anniversary (get translation patch) if you don't mind the sugary cuteness. Kirby's Avalanche on the SNES and Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine on Genesis were based on earlier entries in the series.
Soma Bringer (also get the translation patch), a DIablo-style action game/dungeon crawler by Nintendo which didn't make it here =/
Don't ever forget Contra 4.
Never hear anyone talk about Sonic Rush and it's sequel, so I guess they count.
N+, platformer freaturing a ninja.
There are way more that I probably don't remember.

Xbox Live: HazNobody, pronounced "HAz". | Haven't went to IRC yet? Go! #sydlexia @ DALnet. | Y'all should play some Super Robot Wars J (hey that rhymes!) | yeah I'm back who gives a shit |

Golden Sun DS was announced at E3. Considering you have a DSi and can't play GBA games on it, I'm curious if they'll offer transfer stuff like the first game did with the second (or if you'll have to find a friend with a DS and start a new file with theirs to transfer).

I will second Advance Wars: Days of Ruin. No more friendly looking wars. Dark and gritty. I find the story itself to be kind of irritating but I watch the cut scenes anyway and units can level up which I thought was really cool.

The Fire Emblem remake didn't get much fanfare. Not as good as the stuff on GBA, but still a fun romp. Also, WarioWare Touched is an old favorite of mine. Finally, there's the Korg DS-10 synthesizer program for the house artist in you. It's more of an application than a game, but it is a full featured music creation suite.

I liked Hotel Dusk: Room 215 and Trace Memory. They are both puzzle games made by the same company and have similar game play. I really liked the story lines in both of them too. Hotel Dusk is almost like an interactive novel.

I second Mr. Bomberman's suggestion. The ZX, Advent, and Starforce series are all solid buys.

Bomberman, very thorough list, thank you, I was waiting for your reliable input haha.
I was going to look into AW: Dual Strke, is Days of Ruin really superior?? Also, I didn't realize extreme space invaders had a sequel, what warrants that over the original??

Days of Ruin was a nerf-fest, they took away the great cast of the original series, to give us a bunch of meh ones and Brenner. The gameplay is stripped down, the music is all generic rock, the terrain is boring as all hell, and although there's online it's crawling with Tabithas and Caulders. It's the ultimate picture of what happens when you take a good series, and try to make it "cooler" and edgier.(Next to Bomberman Act Zero)
Don't listen to those people, Dual Strike is the way to go if you want thousands of hours of gameplay time. Any semi-intelligent AW person who has played since the GBA days will tell you this.

I will say though, that AW2 is still the best in the series imo.
