I love that adaptation of Peter and the Wolf! The music is great of course, and Sterling Holloway is even better. I always felt bad for the poor Duck though.

Ah yeah, I know the ones you mean. Those are classics without a doubt, but they were never particular favorites of mine. I love opera more than I could possibly express, but these just never stood out in my mind as favorites.
On another note, I was watching "Cartoonist's Nightmare" (hadn't seen it before this), and got to thinking about the use of inanimate objects in animation. That seemed to be really, really popular in the 30s and 40s, but has kind of gone by the wayside today. I guess now we do animals, instead of objects? The last cartoon I can think of that prominently featured anthropomorphized objects was "The Brave Little Toaster." (Which is also a classic, but god oh god I hate that movie. Too many bad memories from being terrified by it as a kid. To this day, I blame that stupid film for my inability to throw anything away without feeling horribly, horribly guilty about it.)

I'd also add some Woody Woodpecker episodes if I found them on YouTube.
Particularly one that involves him trying to descend the Niagara Falls in a barrel with some dudes in yellow raincoats cheering to whoever did that (and shouting something like 'whooooooaaaaay!!').

My favorite old timey cartoons would be Wile E. Coyote cartoons, and Tom and Jerry, circa anytime before Chuck Jones got a hold of it. Jones may have been a brilliant cartoonist, but Tom and Jerry was one show that suffered greatly in his hands. Probably also has something to do with no longer having original scores... they couldn't make a cartoon like that today, but old school Tom and Jerry was kinetic, absurd and BRILLIANT.

Tom and Jerry's pretty good. I have fond memories of it as a kid. Oddly, I always felt bad for Tom though; I don't know why. Somehow it just seemed more real than other cartoon characters getting hurt, so I didn't like it quite as much.
Wile E. Coyote and Roadrunner would be my pick if I had to choose a single favorite cartoon series. Love that stuff.
