Holy shit. That four minutes was more interesting, more coherent, and all-around better than all three prequels put together. The bullet time I could have lived without, but overall A+ to the creators.

This looks pretty sweet. I just hope being an MMORPG doesn't turn it into a WoW clone. I still kind of like WoW but it's so god damn repetative and there is no really compelling story.
I hope the eventually make another KOTOR to follow the second one.
I will buy this regardless, the original was the first RPG I really played besides pokemon and it got me HOOKED.

This is the second thread to discuss this, but I like the fact that it is a dedicated one. Bioware is responsible for this, so it will be awesome and ruin my life.

I know we had a thread talking about the game before, but it's long dead and I figured that it was both cool enough to get it's own thread and that if I dredged up the old one, I'd get bitched at for bringing back dead threads/no one would read it and therefore miss the trailer. Which is awesome and not to be missed.

I am very tempted to pick this game up, I don't Bioware has ever made a bad game. If we do we should arrange it to be on the same server.

In a way, each of us has an El Guapo to face. For some, shyness might be their El Guapo. For others, a lack of education might be their El Guapo. For us, El Guapo is a big, dangerous man who wants to kill us. But as sure as my name is Lucky Day, the people of Santa Poco can conquer their own personal El Guapo, who also happens to be *the actual* El Guapo! |

Is there a scheduled release date for it? Last I heard it might come out late this year, but am not 100% sure.

I'm sure once the actual game is released it'll be a lot smoother, and the like.

I've watched some other trailers and it seems like pretty standard MMO fare to me. The only real innovation I've seen so far is the team-based conversational cutscenes where each member has a dice roll to choose the next line of speech the party will say, but watching it, you realize what they say is inconsequential; the cutscene will continue to play as scripted no matter what anyone says so it's all rather pointless. It's also a feature that may get extremely annoying when playing alts and you've seen the conversations before.
Other than that, it seems like your standard level up, get skills, kill mobs for experience, tank/healer/dps party based MMO.

Somehow you just compared all MMOs based on the math that is used to run them.
This game will be different than other MMOs the same way that Harry Potter is different than the Lord of the Rings. They are both movies about adventure, magic, battles, and characters who have dialog, but they have different plots and universes.

Electronic Arts is counting on the release date for its major MMO, Star Wars: The Old Republic, to fall in the 2011 calendar year. It just doesn't know exactly when it will be -- and it's not impossible that TOR could be pushed into early 2012.
As a part of its financial results for the fourth quarter of fiscal year 2011, EA opted to not list The Old Republic on its release calendar for the upcoming fiscal year which runs through March 2012. It was noted in the report that the game is "scheduled to launch in the second half of calendar 2011." This isn't an absolute guarantee -- an "outside possibility" of the game slipping into January 2012 was mentioned during the conference call today. |

this is pretty weak IMO. not that i have a computer that can run this game, but it would be cool to see my friends give it a shot.

Bummer, I'm playing Ultima Online just to hold me over until this comes out.
I can't wait to lose my life to it.
GP, lets shoot for the same server. Always nice to see a familar name to run around with.

I have been told by my local friends that I will be fighting for the Sith... I'm not sure it is in line with my personality, but it could be fun to try to force myself to think differently.
P.S. I played KOTOR as a dark lord...
[SPOILER:bf70861703]I remember having Zaalbar kill Mission...[/SPOILER:bf70861703]
...I felt like a bad person for months after that. I had to replay the light side to feel like a good person again.
I would be happy to play with any other Syd Lexians who were interested.

Eh, that's cool and all, but it bugs me that the Republic troopers are just clones pretty much. Seriously, similar armor, similar voice, they even LOOK like Temura Morrison. And that the Sith Empire is...the Empire. Star Destroyer ships, fighters that look and sound like TIEs... Like I know that's the idea and these ships influenced the more "modern" ships of the movies, but this THOUSANDS of years before ANH, you're telling me ships have barely changed shape over thousands of years? And yes I know a lot of the designs are carry overs from KOTR I & II, it was lazy then too.
