You guys never seem to get the Sega Genesis much credit for being a popular console in the early 90's. It's almost always NES or SNES with this site. It makes me think the admin is some fantard and cut out all bitching about other companies to make the site presentable. Also, the excessive NES/SNES love is only redeemed by the occasional "Are You Afraid Of The Dark" article or an article about a Commodore 64 game.

I love the Genesis as well however don't you think that's coming on a little strong? Alot of people here tend to favor the systems that they grew up with. In my case I grew up with a Sega but to my knowledge Syd (and alot of other people) grew up with the SNES. It's only natural to see more content relative to that system. Insulting the articles was a bit exreme.

Syd did an article about Streets of Rage, so he does have love for the Gen/MD.

Bob speaks wisdom.
People talk about whats applicable to them, Genesis content gets mentioned and discussed (its not hated or anything sinister).
It just doesn't seem to apply as often as Nintendo.

Exactly, I was fortunate enough to have both consoles growing up and shed love on both. We don't hate the Genesis here by any means, I was respect them each individually for their respective strengths.
As much as I love music on the SNES, I love how games sound on the Genesis. its a very unique style.

My first console was Genesis, and I might write articles on various Sega games and try to get them on Sydlexia. I even have a HUGE Sonic 2 ROM hack planned. 4 new characters, Special Attack mechanics, and new levels. I'll keep you updated, and like most other projects I wrote about across various forums, this will NOT be abandoned unless something serious happens, likeI can't find anyone or anything to design the new characters an mechanics with. I know of level designers for Sonic 2 though. So, how does playing as Kuckles, Tiara B., Honey the Cat, and Shadow the Hedgehog sound to you in Sonic 2?

I preferred Genesis growing up, but that's because I mostly played sports games, and EA made great ones for that system. Syd doesn't seem to be a sports video game guy, so that's reflected on the site and here on the forums.

You don't really know a lot about fan reactions do you? I mean, I'm hardly a sonic fan but if I'm correct the excessive amounts of characters and complexity in sonic games are exactly what ruined them.

I also had a Genesis before an SNES.. sweet stuff. I remember the last game I got for it was Ristar.
I don't know where you got the notion that people hate it here =/

I still have fond memories of playing EA's NHL games. They were very addictive. I remember my brother made so many trades in one of the games that the players literally warped around the rink.

I love the Genesis.
Unfortunately, the only Genesis emulator I've found that I like (Gens) is decidedly NOT user-friendly when it comes to screenshots.
You have to press Shift + Backspace to do a screenshot, which is a fucking pain in the ass. As far as I can tell, you can't change it. On top of that, you have to name the screenshot when you take it, so it's very disruptive to the gameplay experience. Honestly, getting all the screenshots for the Streets of Rage article was such a complete pain in the ass that it made me never want to do another Genesis article again.

I think so? I definitely tried some incarnation of Kega.
I used to like Genecyst. I forget why I stopped using it. Game compatibility issues maybe?

I grew up with a NES/SNES, my friend had a Genesis but he didn't have that many games. The only games I remember playing with him were Sonic The Hedgehog 2, Street Fighter 2, and Jungle Strike.

I grew up on the early versions of Snes9X and Genecyst with tons of roms for each. Man, those were good times, when I could call some classmates for a little bit of co-op sh'mup or beat 'em up action.
But talk about a hard time for emulation and even harder time to own the actual consoles...

Meh, I wasn't a huge fan of the Genesis...
I thought the controllers were kinda chunky at the time (pre Dreamcast, pre X-Box) and the connection ports between the controller and the system were unrefined. As far as games, I was never a fan of Sonic and his inertia-heavy controls (I probably just sucked at the game). I do remember playing Altered Beast at the Paramus Mall for hours: "Rise from your grave."
I recently found one at the Goodwill for $10.00
(with a power base converter in the game slot). I traded it to eStarland and got Mega Man 6 and River City Ransom.
Ya like what ya like.

Loved the Genesis. There's still one around here somewhere. Had two different Nomads as well.

I'm not really a Sega fan-boy. I like other consoles, but I just happen to enjoy Sega the most, cause that's what I started gaming with.

I prefer Fusion for my main Genesis emulator because I can use Sega CD and 32X easier than Gens, and it's more screenshot friendly. I could review various games and try to get them up here once I get a computer I'm allowed to download stuff on.

I like Genesis, an awful lot. I'm a staff writer on the leading website about the Genesis, www.sega-16.com. The same sega-16 that Aqua Hedgehog got banned from, IIRC.

I grew up as a hardcore Nintendo fan, so I had the NES/SNES combo. A cousin of mine own pretty much all incarnations of Sega consoles up to the Sega CD. That's where I played it the most. So my memory of the system is sporatic and random at best.

Hey, I talk plenty about the Sega Genesis. In fact, I grew up with both the Genesis and the SNES.

These forums are highly pro-Nintendo, but the Genesis is highly accepted as well.
Openly admitting you don't like the Wii is dangerous business around here, though.

Yeah, I am a Nintendo fanboy, and I will be the first to admit it. In the early 90s, when Sega had that fucking obnoxious "Oh my god, look at us, we're all up in your face, we're so so cool and Nintendo's not" ad campaign I fucking hated them. Once I got past that though, I discovered they made a lot of REALLY fun games and I fell in love with them too.
I don't really understand how you can be a Sony or a Microsoft fanboy. What exactly are you a fanboy of, a piece of fucking hardware? I'm sorry, but that's fucking retarded. I'm a fan of games, dammit, which is primarily what Sega and Nintendo make; the platform the games are on is completely incidental. Sony and Microsoft have very few second party titles on their consoles, even less first party titles, and most of them are overrated pieces of trash.
If you bought a PS3 or 360 simply because you think it's an awesome piece of machinery, you are a fucking idiot and you don't deserve to play video games. If you bought one of these systems because you know Namco, Capcom, Konami, Tecmo, Square Enix, and EA will release exciting new games on them, then I fully respect your decision.
