I find this odd...

http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/technology/2009/06/microsofte3.html

Microsoft is writing as though they just began to understand and research a new revolutionary new interface, "The HUMAN BODY". Didn't Nintendo do this like 3 years ago with the Wii?

I'll give them credit for coming to bat and playing ball, but why pretend like it is a new idea in 2009?

Have you been talking to GEZ? He said the exact same thing. Not that you guys aren't both right...

I talk with him on occasion, but I actually didn't speak to him about this.

There has been a bit more info and it sounds interesting... I guess...

http://gizmodo.com/5274319/xbox-360-full+body-controllerless-motion-control-is-here-project-natal

They device doesn't use any controller, it is an A/V capture device that can parse your motion and sound into controller actions. I guess this might be a step ahead of the Wii right now... still it is over a year away. They are just releasing dev kits to companies that will make games for it. Also like any new controller, it most likely will work like ass on older games.

I honestly don't like the idea of controller-less games.

Motion-control stuff only works for certain games, and sometimes it's not the best method. For instance, Punch-Out Wii is fun to use with the wiimote+nunchuk and balance board, but if you want to get the best possible time on beating Title Defense Mr. Sandman, you will be better off with the more reliable NES-style wiimote controls.

I am not sure how I feel. I'm up for seeing how they apply it and making the decision then. First I want to gauge what they are attempting to do.

I am going to have to agree with Syd here. Video games, despite their virtual nature need some sort of tactile element to to fully immerse the player.

With motionless controllers, that is lost...

Here is a use for the new control system.

This looks creepy but awesome at the same time:

That looks pretty cool, now it will be interesting to see how they incorporate this with all of the various game genres.

The only troubling thing is that some kids delve into "fantasy" worlds of their own already, this could remove their need for human interaction altogether. I guess that's a little ways a way yet though, before we can judge if that will actually happen or not.

I like my controller operated games though but I won't condemn this as a bad idea until I can try it.

This will fail for one reason: people are lazy.

People complain that many Wii games force you to move to much, and generally all you're doing is SHAKING A FUCKING CONTROLLER. And now, suddenly, people are going to be excited to play Dead Or Alive by actually punching and kicking? Haha, I don't think so. I wonder what sort of market research went into this idea. My guess - none.

LOL, I just thought of the next Wario release with this type of control. You just thrust your pelvis in and out repeatedly.

Was this the thing they showed that had the girl talking to the kid in the game, and catching fish and shit? Because if it is, (and I'm going to assume there isn't some other breakthrough motion control device from Microsoft) it just looks like another gimmick like the Wii (and even DS). Now look, I'm not dissing either of those systems, I love 'em to death, but eventually the gimmick gets old and it just won't be used much anymore.

I'll probably give this a a shot. Imagine an FPS game where you pretend to remove a clip from a gun and reload it. Or f you were using a bolt-action rifle and you could do the bolt move and it would recognize it.

OK, now imagine how dumb that would be.

It looks like it can have beyond gaming usefulness.. so eitherway it wouldn't be a complete waste.. adn as long as they add variety to their games and the interface you can play said sames with... maybe aslo have some games playable on a controller is a good way to safteynet yourself. And attract more markets.. even if you don't want to use that technology it looks the proccessing power, adn the graphics will be stellar for games.

At least Microsoft is making it as an ADD ON, and not basing thier entire system around a gimmick. *COUGH**COUGH*Nintendo*COUGH**COUGH*

But why now? The 360 has 1-1.5 years left in its lifespan at best. This isn't going to appeal to MS's core gamers, and it's doubtful newcomers will be so intrigued by this development that they'll buy a 360 AND an add-on.

Add-ons RARELY succeed, especially first party ones. What was the last successful first party add-on? The 32X? The Sega CD? Can either of those even really be considered successes?

This seems like something that Microsoft should have integrated into the 720 instead.
