Just finished watching the incredibly hyped-up live action episode of Aqua Teen Hunger Force and it was...mediocre. It wasn't entirely live action and sadly, the cartoon segments were the best. T Pain and H. Jon Benjamin were fine, it was just an odd script. The Meatwad exercise ball was pretty funny and the guy who won the Carl-alike contest was a perfect fit (if Carl was a real person, that guy would be it.) The best part was probably a Dr. Weird reference after his long absence since the movie, too bad it was just a voice over and not Weird himself.

The Point and Counterpoint with Dave Willis and Matt Maiellaro afterwards was pretty hilarious and shows that even they aren't sure what to make of it.

Anyone else catch it? Thoughts?

Maybe it's just me but I haven't really cared for Aqua Teen ever since they started making episodes leading up to the movie. After a certain point the humour started to lose the impulsive comedy style it had before. That seemed to happen around the same time that they started to add more poses for the characters as well as break the fourth wall. I feel kind of silly being so critical of a show that used to thrill me with characters like The Ghost of Christmas Past from the Future and Uug (Or however you'd spell it). I didn't even know it came on tonight.

I was really disappointed with this episode. The guy playing Carl was definitely great, and I like that the only motion he made in the entire thing was laughing and pointing with one finger out and his thumb up, but otherwise the writing was bizarre. T. Pain and H. Jon Benjamin were fine, but they weren't Frylocke and Master Shake. I don't know that they were ever referred to by those names, and they certainly didn't have the personalities of the characters or anything like that.

It was pretty awesome that they used the auto tuner on T. Pain's voice though.

At first I thought it was awful, and, like Jeebus mentioned, the characters didn't act like Frylock or Shake. By the end, the story made sense from a meta standpoint, so I sort of liked it. Still, weird & confusing, more so than usual.

Yeah, the meta aspect was fine, I just don't know why they billed T Pain And H. Jon Benjamin as Frylock and Shake when they were not playing those characters at all, but merely "Dave Shake"'s inspiration for the characters. And the lines were a bit blurred between "reality" and the "show"; T Pain having Frylock's jewel on his back for one. It's either one thing or the other dammit, people don't just randomly wear giant plastic jewels on their backs in real life. Well, crazy ones maybe...

That was probably the best quote in the episode.

I liked it. It was very weird, but the acting and cinematography were great. And they recreated Meatwad's room IRL, which is freaking awesome.

Was this the last episode of the show? It was titled "The Last Last One Forever And Ever". That might have been a joke though. I sure hope so.

I did like that.

From what I've read on the Onion's AV Club, they wrote it as a finale in case Adult Swim did not renew them, but the show was renewed, so there will be more eps eventually.

Yeah, I was worried about that being the end too, especially with Carl's "Truly, they were an Aqua Teen Hunger Force" speech at the end, but then I figured AS would never let them die as long as they made money and would continue to whip the dead horse until every last bit of originality and humor was drained from it. Much like how Fox drained The Simpsons.
