Well this sucks. I really haven't watched Cartoon Network is a really long time, Adult Swim was the only thing I really watched on there lately and that was still a year or so ago. I remember watching it all the time when they showed old episodes of Speed Racer, The Flintstones and other classics.

CN hasn't had any good non-AS shows in like five years, it's not like the channel is suddenly going downhill without warning or anything.

I'd be watching CN if they did have good shows besides stuff on Adult Swim. I liked it the most when it was the classic cartoons.

I remember my family went on vacation in 1996 to Washington state and everybody else went to Victoria, BC I think. I didn't want to go. Good thing I didn't because it was like a round trip 4 hour boat ride. So I stayed in the hotel all day and watched Cartoon Network. I loved every minute of it. The local cable company didn't carry Cartoon Network where we lived so I ate it up. The Flintstones, Speed Racer, Johnny Quest, and Dexter's Laboratory(It was brand new in 1996)

My family liked going to Victoria, minus the long ass boat ride but I think I had more fun. Very Happy

Shame the Cartoon Network I remember from that time is gone. I even remember a Pulp Fiction parody commercial between Shaggy and Droopy. They mimicked the whole "Royale With Cheese" scene from Pulp Fiction all in cartoon terms and it blew my mind. I can't even remember how it went but I'll give it a shot:

Shaggy: "So tell me again about the Scooby Snack bars."

Droopy: "You can't just grab a Scooby Snack and just start chomping away...there are certain designated places."

Shaggy: "Those are Scooby Snack bars?"

Droopy: "Yes...if you the proprietor of a SN bar its legal to sell it, but get this...if you get caught by the monsters in Cartoonville it is illegal for them to scare you."

Shaggy: "I'm fucking going...that's all there it to it...I'm fucking going."

Droopy: "I know baby...you dig it the most."

OK it didn't go like that but it was along those lines. I pulled that whole converstion right out of my ass. Still pretty funny...right?

I miss Tech TV but I knew it was doomed the moment I saw the G4 logo appear on the screen as if it were trying to devour the Tech TV logo like some twisted symbiote.

Am I the only person who doesn't mind CGI animation? I know it might not be like the hand-drawn cartoons that we grew up with, but at least it's still animated.

It's when Cartoon Network starts showing shitty live-action stuff that pisses me off. For God's sake, they've played Son of the Mask, which got panned by critics everywhere.

G4 was great when it actually had shows about games, Judgment Day was an awesome review show. Now all of a sudden when I got satellite again, I see Cops on it. What the ****.

It's not /that/ bad. Disney had some pretty fucking awesome live action shows back in the day (the famous jett jackson, for one) and so did other networks.

I used to love G4 back in the day as well. But it went to hell when they took away G4TV The Show, Filter and all the other cool gaming related shows.

I never had G4 before it merged with TechTV. I am sure it was cool in its prime too. I loved TechTV though. It had video games, it had computers, it had everything a computer geek loves. I can understand that they needed to merge with a similar network to survive. That should have been enough. What the hell does repeats of Cheaters and Cops have to do with the networks that spawned them. Nothing. G4 wants to be the SpikeTV of the geek demographic. Don't most cable networks start off running reruns and then move on to original programming after they get popular. It was the opposite for G4/TechTV. That is the only network I have ever seen that happen on that I watched. Oh well.

RIP:
MTV
TechTV
G4
MTV2
VH1
CN

I don't get MTV3, so I can't say if they moved entirely away from music like their brethren. I would assume so, but I won't judge it without knowing for sure. To be honest if I did get it I wouldn't watch it because most music today sucks to me.

(Oh hell, I have become a crotchety old man now)

I was a caller a couple times on G4TV as well as Attack of The Show and was featured in some of the Attack of The Show User Created segments. I broke out a VHS tape I made of some of my G4 stuff last night and it was pretty cool to see those clips again and how G4 used to be awesome.

You should put that on YouTube. Seriously. I would like to see that.

If I ever get a video capture card I'll probably put some of that stuff up. I don't think my G4TV stuff got recorded but I have some of my calls on Attack of The Show on the tape.

That's cool. I'd like to see them when you do. Put them on Youtube and I'll subscribe for sure.

I may have screen caps as well from when I had some of my questions answered during the chat room segments. I'll probably make a small sub-page on my site for those if I can find them.

Umm....this isn't news. The ditched the all cartoon format years ago when Adult Swim started airing total shit. I think like half of AS isn't animated anymore, and aside from bullshit like Tim and Eric and Saul of the Molemen and stuff, they also showed other live action shows like Saved by the Bell. Cartoon Network thinks they can do whatever the fuck they want and no one will care.

I'm glad I don't have cable TV, then.
Next step for reality shows: take over the World! Thanks for nothing, Big Brother.

What because they're still playing the same line-up as when we were kids? Wait, Cartoon Network didn't exist when I was a kid, and all its original lineup has been gone for years. Now it's all shitty flash cartoons, where everything is so stylized it makes me want to puke. This coming from a graphic artist. Flash can be a useful tool, but the animation is so lazy it's an embarrassment.

I don't care! It's the idea goddammit! I STAND ON MY SOAPBOX AND WILL FIGHT YOU TO THE END OF THE EARTH!!!

Okay no but seriously, they do play cartoons from the 80s and 90s on Boomerang. I assume that'll be axed soon enough, if they're going away from a full cartoon lineup. That isn't really specifically why its a bad thing, but...still. Its the idea, dammit. Evil

I care, I really liked the cartoon format. I like channels that specialize a bit, particularly in this modern 500+ channel world.

I'd be happy if they just created a second channel with all the old cartoons on it like PPG, Dexter's Lab, Edd Ed n Eddy, Samurai Jack, Johnny Bravo, and if they brought back all the good animes that were on Toonami when it first started. Or is that Boomerang now? I don't get Boomerang.

Boomerang used to be (and still is, to a lesser extent) where you can find all the old cartoons like Flintstones, Yogi Bear, Top Cat, Thundarr, The Herculoids, etc. But they also show stuff like Justice League/Unlimited, The Batman, and maybe even S.W.A.T. Kats, still. Occasionally, since they show everything commerical free, they'll show those Groovies shorts like the Jonny Quest board game or Josie & The Pussycats through the eras of music.
