I was at a wedding over the weekend, and for the first dance, the bride and groom selected the Bryan Adams hit "(Everything I Do) I Do It For You" as their song. So I started thinking about what a cheesy, obvious, and boring pick that was. Thousands of people have used that song before you, which makes it a very unspecial song to use for such a special moment.
So the question is, what song would you like played for the first dance at your wedding? Or, if you're married, what song did you pick? Here are some of my potential picks.
Smashing Pumpkins - Ava Adore: "It’s you that I adore/you'll always be my whore/you’ll be a mother to my child/and a child to my heart/we must never be apart." No girl is ever going to agree to this song. But the lyrics are perfect. Well, maybe not the "whore" part.
Pink Floyd - Echoes: This song is 23 minutes and 31 seconds long. So you're going to sit there and watch us dance for 23 minutes and 31 seconds. Have fun!
Pearl Jam - Better Man: Because self-deprecating humor is awesome.

The old lady and I picked "Van Morrison - Someone like you" as our song. I like it.
I was at a wedding once and they played "Ben Harper - The drugs don't work" and I was like what the fuck. They should only play that song at funerals or interventions.

If I had my way, it'd be 'Sweet Child O' Mine', because that song means a lot to me, but my wife would have to basically hold on for dear life as I fought off air guitar urges. Or I'd use one of my songs if I was enough of an asshole.

I'd say this, or Judas Priest's "Dreamer Deciever."

On a more serious note, I'd like a Guns N' Roses song for my wedding (if I ever get married). "Sweet Child o' Mine" is a classic, but it's over-used IMO. I'd rather use "So Fine", or perhaps "November Rain" although that one's fairly long and isn't very accessible for some due to its length. "So Fine" would probably be my choice.

Our 1st song was "Beautiful" by Christina Augularrareurieurioeuroiwe (Fuck, if I know how to spell that, but you know who I mean.)
It was the 1st song we ever danced to on our 1st date so it became "our song".
It's a pretty song, and one of the few that I like that are way outta my normal genres.

If I ever get married, I want it to play some soft but epic songs.
I'd choose Queen's "You're My Best Friend" and Sigur Rós' "Svefn-g-englar" (So what if it's in Icelandic, it's still one of the most beautiful songs I ever heard and I want to share it).

'So Fine' is a great choice Dii. I wouldn't normally pick 'Sweet Child' for the same reasons, but it was my lullaby and it's just...my song. It's what I relate to everything great in my life really.

Hey, that's not a bad idea at all! The people at someone's wedding might actually be into industrial rock.

Most definitely "Stand Inside Your Love" by Smashing Pumpkins, although there are a few others that also come to mind:
"I Believe In A Thing Called Love" by the Darkness (I could use this as a serenade!)
"Dreams" by The Cranberries
"Weird Fishes" by Radiohead (the more that I think about it, the more this seems like a great choice)
"You're My Best Friend" by Queen (cliche, yes, but it became cliche for a reason)
"Unravel" by Bjork

Didn't Axl write November Rain after beating up his wife and trying to reconcile with her?
It's not exactly a "slow dance" song, but I'd like to go with "Somebody's Baby" by Jackson Browne. It's the song that came to my mind the first time I met the girl I'm currently with.

I honestly don't know about that. But hey, as long as people at the wedding don't know that kind of history, maybe they'd still enjoy it anyway! Ignorance is bliss.

Axl wrote November Rain in 1985, before AFD was out, before he married Erin Everly, and well before he was engaged to Stephanie Seymour.

Smack My Bitch Up - Prodigy. If are marrying a woman that will agree with that, then you will have somebody that will stand by you for anything.
Chances are I would let my future wife pick the song because I am a pussy when it comes to women.

Since my sister's wedding was Saturday, I figure I'd post they chose "God Bless the Broken Road."
