I've heard its awesome too. Only minor gripe I've learned of is that they needed more unique characters in addition to the classics.

Its such a fine line though and could easily go the other way.
If they had too many new characters then fans would be like "WTF, who the hell are these noobs" and would complain that the series has distanced itself too much from its roots.

True. But from what I understand, there are literally NO new characters; they're all recycles. Which is awesome since Punch Out characters rock; but a couple creative new ones (especially in the mode you play after you win the title, maybe) would have been a good thing.
Still, its a pretty minor gripe. Overall...I may have to break down and get a Wii.

The difficulty of it better be a third of what it was in the original. Otherwise I'm not going within 10 feet of it.

True, but part of that was the spaced out continue system. Hopefully they allow you to save more often in the new version.

The only gripe I have is that it's fanservicing to NES Punch-Out, but it's not so bad since they still put in Bear Hugger and Aran Ryan. That's business for you, but I truly need it.

I'm not sure, but I think Reginald VelJohnson does the voice of Doc Louis. Maybe I just want it to be him.

Wishful thinking my man. The guy in the commercial doesn't look like him either.
*Sigh*
I think I may go listen to my recording of the Family Matters theme song on repeat now.

I was hoping that Bill Cosby would voice Doc Louis and make him sound like Fat Albert.

Shit, I'm still stuck on Soda Popinski on the original NES game. I just can't figure out how to counter his moves.

I've had this game since Tuesday (got MadWorld the same day too) and haven't cracked either box open other than to register it (I now has Platinum Club N status).

I know this is a silly question for me to ask, but is Disco Kid supposed to be the replacement for Tyson? When I found out that they were making it for the Wii I wondered how they were going to work that one out. I mean, can they still legally use Tyson in their game? I'm not really the most knowleadgable person when it comes to stuff like that.

Disco Kid is in the first circuit, so no, he doesn't replace Tyson.
In order to use Tyson, Nintendo would have to work out a new licensing deal with him. And given his rape conviction and other problems, it is unlikely they would ever want to do that.
Hell, Nintendo dropped him for less than that. Their original licensing deal with him expired shortly after he lost the title to Buster Douglas. The match took place in Tokyo, so it was especially irritating to Nintendo when Tyson lost the title in a huge upset. The proud Japanese businessmen who ran Nintendo at the time were so dishonored by Tyson's loss, they refused to renew his licensing deal. And so, Punch-Out featuring Mr. Dream was born.

Ah, that makes sense. I never played any Punch-Out outside of the original. I'm ashamed to say that I never got past Bald-Bull when I was younger. Does Mr. Dream fight like Tyson or is he a different beast altogether?

Mr. Dream fights exactly like Tyson. They basically just drew a new sprite over him.
And going back to Disco Kid, he seems to be an homage to modern athletes in general, and ballers in particular. Before the match, you are treated to a montage of his cars and mansion, and he's very fucking arrogant. I may never get the chance to punch Kobe Bryant in the face, but punching Disco Kid in the face is the next best thing.

Sounds awesome. It's a shame I can't afford a new system or else I'd try this out. Do your opponents still keep the same tactics that they used on their debut? Does Disco Kid have any specialty outside of being a dick?

The guys have the same mannerisms, but there are some new twists thrown in. King Hippo has a new special move that is super evil.
