I'm not sure if any of you ever played the original Red Faction game. It was a first person shooter in which you could destroy the ground and environment. If you needed to go through a cave wall, you blow it up. If you need to drill down to get to a lower section of the level, you blow it up. The game was fast paced and overall unique. So why wasn't it terribly popular? Best guess is that it's story wasn't very compelling and the graphics weren't very good. It looked a little too polygonish for the time.

Now a new game to continue this series is being developed and is due out this year.

Red Faction: Guerrilla

I am excited to see how it turns out. Get ready for a new FPS engine that will most likely be used by a variety of games and might really offer something new (again).

I quite enjoyed Red Faction II for xbox, or at least the multiplayer was fun, I have high hopes for this.

I think the first one did all right for a while until Halo came out later that year. Red Faction 2 came out in 2002 and Halo was still the dominant shooter at the time.

I never really got into the first two. Red Faction was okay, but got old and repetitive, and Red Faction 2 was fun until the long-ass, boring catacombs mission. I've been playing the demo of Guerilla for 360, and I freakin' love it. We finally have full destructability. I took out the front supports for a building with explosives, and just watched as the building slowly teetered until it collapsed under its weight, and just squished a bunch of soldiers under it. Awesome.

So here's to you Mrs. Robinson. People love you more- oh, nevermind.
