Anyone else a fan of this show? I started watching it kind of by accident today and wow, I forgot how much I loved this show. I don't know if I want to say it was ahead of its time, but i'd say it definitely couldn't be on tv these days. Carrol O'Connor is ridiculously funny too.

I simply cannot watch the show. Archie Bunker is too much of an asshole and a racist for me to tolerate.

It's thought of as a classic though, so maybe there's something wrong with my opinion...

No, I agree in a sense. I know some people who are offended by the show. I just think it was the point of the show for him to be such a racist prick at that time of transition in this country. Not that it was right, but it was funny. Of course there was always the son in law as the voice of reason though.

I never really cared for this show. I found the characters to be annoying most of the time.

Married with Children is so much funnier than AITF IMHO.

or maybe its just a generational humor thing.

Thzt's funny because I started watching the E True Hollywood story on MWC right after AIF. Yeah, I like both shows. MWC is definitely funnier though. AIF was just groundbreaking for its time. MWC was too kind of I guess, but in not such a serious way.

I come from a city where theres probably more minority than any of you have ever seen and being spanish myself. with pretty thick skin. The racism thing doesn't really effect me. I can see how it would offend some people though.

I think the racism is why Daddy Lexia likes it so much. I kid, I kid. But for at least a year you couldn't eat dinner in my house without watching AITF

Archie was a jerk on the surface, but he was a good guy deep down and when things really mattered, he'd do the right thing.

Let's not forget the Hanna-Barbera attempt to cash in on a show like AitF:

Married with Children was awesome before it became a live action cartoon.

But back to the original topic, All In The Family was amazing. To a poster above that said Archie was too racist, etc to be likable, well, you kind of missed the point, dude. The whole dynamic was that Archie WAS the old guard, from the days where it was OK to be a beligerent, antiquated set of views. He kind of reminded us of our grandparents, who may have been racist (and therefore wrong) as fuck, but still lovable in a weird sort of way. Legend has it that Carroll O'Connor was uncomfortable playing Archie as he was the complete antithesis of Mr. Bunker.

But how bad can Arch be? Sammy Davis Jr. loved him.

And, for the record, Archie Bunker's Place was terrible.

Not only is that not right, that's not even wrong. It's a meaningless statement. Saying something is "one molecule away" from plastic is like saying a farm is one letter away from a fart. Water is "one molecule away" from being explosive hydrogen gas.

I liked it. Not something I'd go out of my way to watch, but good when nothing else is on.

Yea I watched the True Hollywood Story on AITF and it was funny to see O'Connor being himself and not Archie. You almost forget he's a real person.

Yea Archies place did suck, but not as bad as "Gloria" but Archie was only in the 1st epicsode of that.
