To be specific I finally beat the second quest.

Here is my history with the game and why it took me so long to do this (for those who aren't interested, skip down below).

I first played this game on Gamecube, as I ordered one when it was doing that Zelda promotional deal (i.e. Zelda 1, 2, OoT, Majora's Mask). So I decided to give 1 a spin. Even with a strategy guide. The first quest was relatively difficult. So much to the point that when I killed Ganon in the first quest, that was enough for me. Difficulty on NES games was out of fucking control and no way was I going to try and prove myself to be some sort of "Master gamer." So a couple years passed, I got nostalgic for the game, played it all the way through on an emulator on first quest, gave second quest a shot and got frustrated with the 5th or 6th temple.

Fast forward to about 2 or 3 months ago, when I bought the game on VC. Played it all the way through on first quest without a hitch. Playes about halfway through 2nd quest, got frustrated, stopped playing for a month, then started playing it and eventually finished it this afternoon.

=====================================================================

Now that that rambling is out of the way, a couple of things about this game I don't think hold up.

*Arrows require rupees to use? Fuck you, I hope you get sent to Afghanistan to die...um, against the Russians. This is the number 1 thing I hated about this game. This wouldn't be so bad if everything wasn't so damn expesnive. But considering if you aren't careful the Like Like's (or the stack of pancakes as Syd affectionately refers to them), you lose your big shield and them whoops, gotta go hunt 90 rupees for a big shield, and now I have to use my hard earned savings to kill Gohma? I am common sense and I am not here. I guess being that the first Zelda game I ever played was Link To The Past, where arrows were represented with arrows, going to play this game and discovering arrows and rupees were the same makes me wonder what the hell Shigeru Miyamoto was thinking.

*Walking through invisible walls. Now this isn't so bad to me, because I was using a strategy guide, but I imagine it was torture for those who wouldn't. I mean, how the hell would anybody be able to figure that out?

*The Red and Blue skulltula bubbles. Let's say, you have one hits worth of health left. Then you get hit by a red bubble, then you get hit by an actual enemy . Game over. Now let's say, duty calls and you save your game to go do something else. When you come back to the game you start at the beginning and are UNABLE TO USE YOUR FUCKING SWORD until you find a blue bubble wandering around in the bowels of Hyrule.

    JON BENET RAMSEY EPIC FAIL

Thankfully this was another mistake that never happened again in the Zelda series, or at least in the games that matter.

*"Leave your money or your life." Giving you one of my hearts permanently or having to pay you 50 rupees to enter the room. I'd come up with a "horrible fate x vs. horrible fate y" joke here. But this feature is so awful it doesn't deserve that effort.

But those complaints aside, I still think it's pretty fun. I'd say the thing I like about it the most is infinite magic rod uses. And even though I complained about the expense of stuff, I think this is the only Zelda game that I played where money actually mattered. Rupees were more or less worthless in the other games. In Ocarina Of Time, it was harder to find ways to get rid of Rupees than it was earning them.

Well, off the play Link To The Past for the 335834509238th time.

It's funny that the old man essentially mugs you in the second quest. Isn't he supposed to be an ally?

Yeah, some of them move slow, while some of them are fucking roadrunners. At least you only need to fight one of them to beat the game.

True true, and they weren't nearly as bad as the enemies in Zelda 2. The Darias, Ironknuckles, moas, wolf heads and unicorn heads, wizrobes, ghomas and digdoggers, basically everything past the stupid tinsuits and mace throwers were all evil bastards. Ah I love that game, so difficult yet so rewarding. Smile

I always found the best thing to do is to approach them from behind and when they turn on just start stabbing rapidly.

Why would you fight those guys? They can be 100% avoided.

You have to fight at least one, because it stands on a staircase.

You don't have to win, you just have to not-die.

The boomerang stuns them I think.

Because they're monsters and I'm on an adventure? Confused

You need to hang out with Simon Phoenix a little less often. Not everything needs to be killed. Sometimes you need to choose your battles.

Yep. And don't forget the one hiding the Power Bracelet.

Quite a few of those guys stand over stairways where you can get rupees. Unless you want to get 250 of them the hard way. Sadly no
