I've seen reviews for this all day and it seems like the action is good but the story is not so great and is all over the place. Has anybody here seen this movie yet, and is it worth seeing or should I wait for it to come to DVD?

Just saw it today, as a fan of the series I would say its a must see. The action was phenomenal, the story was fairly well put together, a little bit scattered but nothing severe. Bail's acting reminded me of his Batman voice, all raspy with no real defining feature to it. The person who really stole the show was the actor who portrayed Marcus Wright, Sam Worthington. His acting Reminded me greatly of Sabretooth in X-men origins: Wolverine. All in all i would say go for it if your a fan of the series but if not your not really missing out on a whole lot. The Second film is still by far and away my favorite of the series.

What about somelike like me who, after seeing T3, felt they should've stopped at T2?

That is another reason I am a bit skeptical about Salvation.

That's why I never bothered with T3. After over a decade, it was too late for a sequel, I had lost my interest in the series, and where T3 launched from totally destroyed most of T2.

That said, Saturday is the only day of my long weekend that I don't have plans for, so if I'm bored enough and can find some friends, I'll be going, solely because of Bale's presence and to see an empty action flick. I still hold the first two as the only true Terminator movies though. The rest is just exploitation of the market for more money.

T2 will remain the superior Terminator movie for me, mostly because of robert patrick and the fact the movie had a decent plot.

What pissed me off about T3 was we really didn't see much of the female terminator when the previous movies were more then willing to show us everything the govinator had to offer.

PG-13 = EPIC FAIL

I have heard the movie is very, very loud. And that's all I've heard about. So if you want to see an orgy of explosions, then you and your best friend Michael Bay should go see it, then go tell McG how awesome he is.

you bring up a good point.

A well done PG-13 action film can be good if done right. Rarely does this happen though. I mean seriously, i get hollywood wants to broden it's audiance but come on, the people who grew up with the terminator series are adults now and WANT some Rated-R action!!! And then you have that shit were a parent will force their kid to see a R movie, yes i have seen it and yes it does go against everything the soccer moms wine about.

The only good PG-13 action movies I've seen are:

1) superhero movies, and even most superhero movies aren't good.
2) The Fifth Element
3) Stargate

Terminator is R-rated franchise. Always has been, and it always should be. No one wanted to see a PG-13 Aliens vs. Predator either.

The only thing worse than PG-13 action movies are PG-13 horror movies. No guts, no glory.

I was turned off from this movie for many reasons. McG, PG-13 rating and how the story has just become a clusterfuck since T3. I'll probably wait for the DVD.

I really hate it when R-rated franchises go PG-13 just to sell more tickets...AvP, Die Hard and so on. Even though the AvP sequel was rated R it still sucked, but at least the violence/gore was there as opposed to the original.

I saw it tonight, it wasn't bad. It manages to be far less cheesy than the first three and nowhere near as stupid as 3. It is loud, lots of explosions and gunfire but lots of really slick robot designs. For instance, the big "harvester" robots in the trailers that snatch people up have one of the bike terminators hidden in each shin that can be deployed and the harvester itself tucks into a slot of the prison airships which also store a hunter killer gunship on their bellies. Lots of early model terminators too, 600s, 700s, 800s under production and even 100s (those low tank looking ones with gattling guns on either arm, I think they're in T2 briefly.) My friend complained that it was super cheesy, but I don't get where he was coming from with that and he couldn't seem to back it up. He kept citing Marcus' interaction with some characters as cheesy, but I didn't see as anymore so than most action movies.

I gotta say, seeing the Arnold 800 gave me a shiver

Did you really just say that this is better than the first two movies? I think I'm going to miss you slightly less when you move away. Wink

I saw it on Thursday because matinees are $4.00 at the theater by my house and I got more than I expected. I had low expectations and was surprised by good acting (the guy who played Marcus Wright and the Charlie Bartlet kid were good), good action, and a story that kept me interested. I don't wanna give away too much but fans of the first 2 movies should definitely go see it.

Haven't seen it yet but since i'm a fan boy of T2, i knew this movie would not surpass it so i decided to see a vlog, knowing their will be spoilers.

Warning, there are spoilers from here on:

http://www.spoonyexperiment.com/2009/05/22/vlog-5-22-09-terminator-salvation/

You know what's sad, a lot of what he said was already spoiled in the trailers. It's almost obvious that the cyborg guy is a sleeper, i would have been surprised if Rees was NOT in this movie or in any danger. The fact that the cyborg turns on Skynet is almost a cliche given. Seriously, as long as this movie has good action, the story? i gave up on story line for the Terminator series because none in the series can top T2. He brings up a good point on how does Skynet know about Connor and Rees? The whole propose of Connor's existence is to be an unknown till the end of skynet and only then does skynet send terminators back in time as a last resort. I'll still go see it, but honestly, that 'original' ending he mentioned, would have been worth seeing.

Oh and the hilarious thing, they could actually have gone with that ending then towards the end of the new series, presented another john Connor (it's a common name) who takes over as leader and thus still senting in motion the whole thing in cycle.

Seriously though, the franchise must end and it must end with the seen when terminators are sent back in time and Connor dying when skynet goes kablooy!

Damn, i haven't even seen the movie and my snark already has fangs.

CRACKED'S attempt to map the T time line:
http://www.cracked.com/topic/254-the-terminator/

Wow, has anyone else's head exploded? How about we stop all research into time travel now so skynet can't fuck with time.

It's really making me question myself, since I've been thinking this movie would be as bad as T3 or even worse, but so far people have been saying it was decent.

Guess that makes me the only guy who liked T3 here. Even though the action was a bit lackluster than T2 (which is god in my eyes), I liked it for what it was and didn't go all fanboy. Plus, it at least provided the precursor to the future that happened in the end instead of just skirting around it.

But yeah, I'm seeing this sometime.

No, I liked T3 too. It wasn't as good as T2, but I didn't think it was bad by any means.

I will probably see the new one next week some time. I am not overly excited to see it, but I definitely want to see it while it is still in theaters.

Very true. It's a decent popcorn flick with some nice explosions, action scenes, etc., but it doesn't hold up well AT ALL in considering of the fact that it's part of the Terminator series.

And no, this movie isn't worth seeing. It's boring as hell, and at many times it reminded me of Transformers.

I love T3. The action scenes were great, and the ending was fucking fantastic. It may not have been as awesome as T2, but it was on par with the original.

Furthermore, T3 represented a refusal to bow to Hollywood trends. At a time when studios were putting out complete fucking garbage like The Matrix Reloaded, with MTV soundtracks, ADHD-inducing quick cuts, and unimpressive action scenes, suddenly along came T3. It was loud, unsophisticated, and concise. It is a 90s action movie through and through, which is great because it SHOULD have been made in the 90s.
