I don't think that had anything to do with it. They cut out "Medecine" and "Recall" as well.

I believe the only ability removed for NOA reasons was "Prayer".

Oh, we're serious now? Okay.

NoA didn't actually remove any of those abilities. The American Final Fantasy II was based upon an "easy version" release of Final Fantasy IV, which didn't have those abilities.

lmao by the looks of things i better finish this game, things are gettin serious. and yes it is wicked awesome. i think i may have a problem tho, i played from like 1030 last night til like 8 this morning.

btw about knowing the numbers and shit. honestly this is the first final fantasy ive ever played, so if i offended anyone for not calling it the right number then sorry.

p.s. if i wasnt such a meathead and just waited to get rydia i wouldve never had the zombie problem in the 1st place. so technically i kinda jumped the gun on making this thread. thanks for the help tho.

How about we come up with an official Sydlexia nomenclature for all Final Fantasy Games:

I suggest

Final Fantasy - 1, The original, The one with the mech on the bridge.
Final Fantasy 2 - 2, The 2nd Famicon one, The one that isn't very good.
Final Fantasy 3 - 3, The 3rd Famicon one, the one you haven't played, unless you downloaded a translated ROM for.
Final Fantasy 4 - 4, The 1st SNES/Super Famicon one, the one with the Spoony Bard
Final Fantasy 5 - 5, The 2nd Super Famicon one, the other one we didn't get until PSX.
Final Fantasy 6 - 6, The 3rd Super Famicon one, the 2nd SNES one, the one with Kefka.
Final Fantasy 7 - 7, The 1st PSX one. The one that introduced emos as main characters.
Final Fantasy 8 - 8, The 2nd PSX one. The one with the hot teacher.
Final Fantasy 9 - 9, The 3rd PSX one. The cutesy one.
Final Fantasy 10 - 10, The 1st PS2 one. The one with lots of water.
Final Fantasy 11 - 11, The MMO that shouldn't count in the main series and should have been called simply "Final Fantasy Online".
Final Fantasy 12, 12, The 3rd PS2 one. The shitty one made after all the original people left Sqeenix.
Final Fantasy 13, 13, The 1st PS3/X360 one.

Others:
Final Fantasy: Mystic Quest - MQ, The easy, shitty one.
Dissidia: Final Fantasy - The upcoming platformer for PSP
Final Fantasy Legend · Final Fantasy Legend II · Final Fantasy Legend III - The Gameboy ones.
Final Fantasy Adventure - The one that's really a Mana series game. Also on Gameboy.
Final Fantasy IV: The After Years • Compilation of Final Fantasy VII • Final Fantasy X-2 • Crisis Core: Final Fantasy • VII Final Fantasy XII: Revenant Wings - Ways to make more money.

What about the Tactics games?

NOA may have had nothing to do with the removal of the abilities, but they were in both versions of the Japanese FF4.

I dunno maybe you're right. I was on an FF wiki earlier, and they said the abilities were ONLY removed from the NA version. I figured that people who actually cared enough about Final Fantasy to create an entire wiki on it would have their shit together and know what was up, but maybe not.

I played a translated version of FF4, probably Hard Type, but I don't really know, but it had the abilities. Why would I play a translated version of a game readily available in North America? Because I wanted to see the Programmers' Room.

But I don't see why you'd remove abilities from an "Easy" version of a game. All of those abilities made the game easier. One of the super secret Calls was removed too. Or changed. I forget which. Fuck, I wish I was asleep.

I believe you mean the Knife. The PSX port's translation is exponentially better.

I stand corrected. I haven't played the PSX version, but I believe it's also called the Knife in the GBA port.

Here's another great tip that I found while watching a video playthrough of Final Fantasy IV: cast Weak/Tornado on the Dark Dragon (final form of Dark Elf). It works.

Cloud is emo joke is overplayed, and completely wrong.
Cloud and squall both aren't emo - clouds pretty upbeat until he finds out his ENTIRE LIFE WAS A LIFE midway through disc 2

Squall is just a fucking asshole. I love that guy!

Nor should you have. The game should only be played on the SNES. If you HAVE to play it another platform, the GBA will suffice.

Well, after playing the GBA version, I find the SNES's translation mildly unbearable. And at least the difficulty wasn't eviscerated like the Final Fantasy I remake. At least, I didn't think it was any easier... I still got my ass handed to me the first time I opened a Monster In A Box and faced down Red and Blue Dragons.

Then again, when I played the GBA version I used the default final party (Cecil, Rosa, Rydia, Edge, and Kain) and didn't participate in the bonus dungeons.
