Hey guys, I might need to throw this out in a dedicated tech/game forum, but I thought I'd ask here. I just bought Doom 3 via Steam, and am currently regretting not getting the CD because I can't seem to make any user-created mods work. From the googling done I can see its a problem, but I can't find any solutions. Does anyone know how to make mods work with Steam?

I didn't even know people were modding doom3, damn I'm out of the loop. Confused

Try this out http://www.modwiki.net/wiki/Doom_3

Also these guys are modding doom3 to have doom 1 levels and gameplay, or uprgading the original doom to Doom3's engine, or something like that. Whatever it sounds neat.

HAH! Holy shit I got it on my own, its a miracle. I guess with Steam, for whatEVER reason, there are two sets of files in your comp; one in program files and one under "steam apps."

I'm going to assume that doesn't mean its taking up double the space... Confused That or maybe the program files are left over from when I tried to install the demo, hrmph.

Either way, I was putting them in the wrong set--it needed to be in the files under Steam. All seems well now. Thank you.

Blakie, I am SO checking out those original level mods. That looks badass! Thanks!

Highly recommended. Doom 3 is fucking amazing. My only problem is summoning up the courage to play. Laugh at me as you will, but this game scares the ever loving bejeesus out of me. If one more imp comes screeching out at me when I open a door, I think I'm going to have a nervous breakdown.

I felt that way when playing Far Cry... I'd be walking along and then out of the brush I'd be mauled in the face by a huge monsterish thing.

Is the death event like it is in Far Cry? It drove me nuts, you don't get to see what killed you, you just fall down dead and hit the floor.

No, the death event is just a fade to a red screen I think. Its pretty rare not to see what killed you--none of the monsters really hide once they attack. They hide BEFORE, and make you shit yourself by coming out of nowhere and ripping you apart, but you almost always have time to see them and have a heart attack before you die. The only time I've ever been killed by something I haven't seen is while in the middle of a firefight, and having something sneak up behind me. I didn't have time to turn around and see it, but from the sound I knew it was an Imp. *shrug*. So its not annoying in that way.

And frankly, all of the jump-out scares are pretty cheesy, and WOULDN'T be so hard to take if the game's atmosphere wasn't so relentlessly dark and creepy. Something about it is just really good at getting inside my head. I'm actually hoping that this game will help me overcome my fear of this sort of story, because (and this is embarrassing, I know) I have yet to make it all the way through Event Horizon (which Doom 3 reminds me of a LOT actually), and still have to fast-forward through parts of the Alien series. *shudder*. My imagination is too active for this stuff.

Opti, I totally agree about the duct tape mod; that's actually exactly the mod I was trying to use. the literal "duct tape" one is my favorite, since it only adds a light to your shotgun and m249. There are mods that add like to all your weapons, but duct tape seems like a fair balance of being able to see vs firepower. Because honestly, it seems a little ridiculous to not be able to use a light with ANY weapons, especially the pistol. I mean, this Marine can climb a ladder with both hands holding the BFG, but he can't hold a flashlight and pistol in two different hands at the same time? I call bullshit!

Does Doom 3 have a mod to make the Demons look like Barney?
