The town I live in now smells fine. However, there's a septic treatment place on the road between here and UMass (Fortunately I don't drive there anymore) and right around exit 41 off of 93 smells a little funky.

Oh, and the town Syd/Kris are in smells sometimes. They have something called "the pit", which is an enormous compost heap. Residents can pay to get a permit to dump branches, leaves, and other shit there, and it then becomes compost soil which is also sold. While compost heaps SHOULD actually smell really nice if you take care of them, the town doesn't take care of it and they never turn it, so on sunny days it reeks to high heaven. This is especially unfortunate for Kris Lexia as the High School is less than half a block downwind from the pit. On hot days during the school year, students taking history class have to choose between opening the windows and dealing with the smell of the rancid pit, or closing the windows and dealing with the fact that they're in a small, poorly ventilated room with no air conditioning and HUGE windows directly facing the sun.

Also, since they don't ever turn the pit or take care of it at all, on extremely hot days following rainy days, the leaves in the pit have a tendency to spontaneous combust.
