Someone will pick up the license and the game might actually come out.

So... it was false advertising and a huge fucking lie?

No. The company came out and said "It will not hurt the production on DNF. It is safe and is currently still being worked on." At least, that is what I heard. I also heard that in the last few months they were thinking of maybe selling the game to another company so they wouldn't to work on it.
I was thinking of this: DNF + VALVE = :O

Actually, if DNF went to VALVE, then that would be GODLY! Sure they would refit it with thier Source Engine, but that's by all means alright. It's tried and true, and would be perfect for the game.
From an economic stand point, it's a win-win situation. Valve has (despite my general disgust of the program) Steam, the only content distribution program that of it's kind that is successful. And since those of us that have steam, most likely would be enticed with a game with such a history as DNF, we would buy it. They would have an immediate success just from that. Top that off with the Fanboy and ladies from the original Duke Nukem games, they alone would buy it and it would be a success.
Now if Valve had obtained the rights, they would actually put effort into completing the game. Only thing I could see wrong with it is if they try putting a story to it that tried to make sense. It's Duke Nukem, there isn't supposed to be anything in it that will make sense.

Link? I think you got this confused with the upcoming DS/PSP game Duke Nukem Trilogy.

A part of me has been more excited to see DNF come out from a less popular developer and publisher.
I would love to see something new on the market. The world already has enough games that all look like each other. It is time for something new and fresh... completely unique.

And actually, I think id, Human Head (Prey guys) and probably Raven Software and Rockstar are the only other guys who can do this correctly.
Valve's style would just clash with Duke's all about.

I don't know about that. Valve already has justified it's ability with an FPS like Half-Life and Left 4 Dead. I'm thinking that, replace the crowbar with a boot, give the maincharacter a kickass voice with a grim sense of humor, and merger the two settings together, you might have a decent game
