Blood Cells Can Be Reprogrammed To Act As Embryonic Stem Cells
ScienceDaily (Apr. 21, 2009) — In a recent study, U.S. researchers have reprogrammed cells found in circulating blood into cells that are molecularly and functionally indistinguishable from embryonic stem cells, a revolutionary achievement that provides a readily accessible source of stem cells and an alternative to harvesting embryonic stem cells. |
Finally, no more ethics bullshit concerning stem cell research as far as I'm concerned. Discuss.

That's awesome! It's amazing what science can accomplish. With this discovery I'm sure that their are nearly endless possibilities, hopefully without trying to throw morality back into the mix.
This is only remotely relative to this thread, however I've been wondering about it for awhile now. I remember hearing about a man who had HIV and, after recieving a blood transfusion, was discovered to have no remaining traces of it in his system. Did anyone else remember reading about this? I only seen the headline so I didn't get to hear the full story.

They can still make stem cells from bone marrow, placentas, womb liquid, umbilical cords, etc.
Of course, adult stem cells don't have the potential of embryonic ones, but at least it's something...

I've never been much for the controversy on the matter, but I'm pleased that science can continue moving forward without any more interruption. I suppose sometimes we can have our cake and eat it too.

Yeah, cuz science MAGICALLY discovered that in the three weeks since Obama reuathorized funding for stem cell research.
Or maybe, Bush's restrictions forced scientists to find a more ethical way to obtain stem cells.

Yeah, exactly.
If anyone's still crying "witchcraft!" after this breakthrough, they need to be punched in the solar plexus.

Fantastic! Perhaps the moral crusaders won't try to ruin it. It could really help alot of people.
