Or I will come and fucking shove a lawn gnome down your thoat, shit in the hole and video tape it. I will upload the video onto 4chan along with your info.
You will be forever known as GNOMEYSHITHEAD.

In somewhat related news... I only made 5 cents in tips tonight at work. And yes. I took deliveries.

Do you tip your drivers?

When I can afford it I tip the delivery guy 5 10 bucks, the way I look at it he risked his life driving across town to deliver food I was too lazy to get myself. Plus they tend to remember you and show up faster.

Yep, I consider the tip (5 bucks minimum) part of the cost of the pizza/other food delivery. If I can't afford that, I don't order or get the food myself.

I love you guys. <3 I always give a $5 at least but I know that is a lot and I don't expect it as a driver.
But a $2 tip is pretty good for the time of year and I am quite happy nowadays with a $2 tip.

I would consider 25% to be the expected tip for food delivery. Usually I pay by credit card and tip in cash.

You people have way too much spare cash. Or maybe you're used to ordering more food than I tend to. Sorry, I'm not tipping 5 bucks on a 10 dollar pizza.

I tend to try and tip at least 2 dollars plus the change, more if it's a bigger order of course. And yes, I try and do it cash if I can...it's a lot harder for a manager to gank it that way.

I tip 15% if the meal waitress/waiter is attentive or at least trying to be professinal. I leave less if they aren't.

Its not a matter of too much money; I just put myself in the guy's place and ask myself what would make me happy. I'm sure some people don't tip at all, and while its not my job to make up for that, I see it as a good karma kind of thing. I too was once trying to work my way through college.

...Of course I'm still trying to work my way through college, but... Confused

That's nice, but slightly off topic. We're talking about delivery drivers.

If you really did that, your pizza deliveries would end up a lot like some of those less reputable movies. Shocked

Owned lol. I guess I should have added, "happy within reason." Laughing

That applies to deliverers of food anywhere. However I should've included drivers on the list.

I tip 15-20% unless you're more than 5 minutes late. At which point I dock a dollar for every 5 minutes afterward.

That's generally not a very good method. When I used to deliver pizza, 99.99% of the time it was late because of the kitchen taking too long. I would assume the percentage has increased even more now with the invention of GPS on cell phones.

I don't use the % rule on pizza, as I have a $3 dollar minimum for say a 10 dollar order. I usually tip around 5 bucks and my orders I would estimate usually range from 18-30 dollars.

I don't tip by percent on pizza and Chinese food. I normally do $2 or 3, plus whatever change makes it the total a whole number. I'll do more if it's a huge order or less if there's a delivery charge.

How is it possible to only make 5 cents though? I had a friend who delivered pizzas in high school, and on a Friday or Saturday he would make $150+ a night. I know weeknights are slower, but that still seems impossible.

Here is the deal. I always tip drivers/waiters.

Still, I think it is stupid, and if my convictions ever take over my heart, I'll stop.

It is a job that you get paid for. I hate the tipping system in general. Goods and services should have a price, period. Don't make me figure out how much extra you should get, just tell me how much it should cost in total so that I can decide if it is worth paying.

On the flip side, owners of businesses should be paying full wages to all employees so that tips can be given as a "bonus" rather than expected payment.

Well, doc, back home I used to make $80 a night. Moved to a different town and this town is full of PEOPLE WHO NEED TO LEARN TO BE PROPER HUMANS.

D:

Anyway, this town never HAS tipped well. I average $25 a night now. Moving home in a few weeks, though. Will get better tips again!

See, I tend to agree with this, but like you GP, I just can't bring myself not to tip.

What really kind of confuses/irritates me is that SOME jobs require tipping while some don't. I mean, grocery bagger is at least as low paid a job as pizza guy, but no one ever tips them. Do we tip purely because we hope the food service people don't spit in our food, or what...?

That said, when I was a cashier at Target, I occasionally had people try to give me their change as a "tip." Of course we weren't allowed to accept that (and it was never very much anyway.) I assume it was more out of laziness of not wanting a bunch of pennies in their pocket than actual generosity, though.

Being a bagger pays more in most cases. When I started working, federal minimum wage was $5.25 (though it was higher in MA, cause we're awesome), so that was what a bagger would make. A pizza delivery guy or a waitress, however, are considered tipped employees, so their minimum wage was $2.63 (So half of whatever regular minimum wage was, and I believe they kept the ratio the same when minimum wage went up). Of course, if they don't get enough tips then the employer has to add enough so that they're making minimum wage, but their hourly rate is still less.

Basically, being a waitress or any other tipped position is like working on commission. How much you make is directly proportionate to how good you are at your job. If you suck at selling furniture, you won't make any commissions. If you're a shitty waitress, you won't get any tips. A restaurant manager can't watch every interaction their wait staff has with every person, but they can track the amount that they make in tips. This lets them know who is good and who sucks, and fire people accordingly so that the dining experience in the restaurant is improved. If you didn't want to tip, then the prices would have to be higher (Which you'd bitch about) to accommodate the higher wages being paid to the waitstaff, but the general dining experience would be worse because there would be no incentive for anyone to do a good job or not spit in your food.

Long story short, if you don't want to tip people then do everything yourself and quit whining. Just remember: if someone does a shitty job, give them a shitty tip. The system only works if people are actually willing to tip based on performance.

I just finished shooting a student film where I was a pizza guy, In one scene I get a 7 cent tip. The Writer/Producer currently works at Pizza Hut and says it happens "all too often."

I also get raped by 3 super hot girls on a delivery Very Happy The previous call for the order sounded like a phone sex operator Razz I guess the question is... does that really happen?

Actually my first job in high school was as a bag boy at a local grocery chain, and on some days I actually received a good amount in tips. That was especially true on weekends. One day in particular I made $80 in tips on top of the $6.25 I already made per hour. It probably helped that the store was adjacent to a retirement community and many customers were quite grateful for the service.
