Hey guys! Have any of you ever [foolishly] tried to use a retro light gun, more specifically the Super Scope, on one of those flat screen HDTV sets that use LCD, PLD or Plasma technology? I certainly have, even though I read that I couldn't do it.

Anyway, while trying to look for the best of both worlds (HDTV and retro light gun capability), I stumbled across this interesting little TV set. It's the Samsung TX-R3080WH Television, and it uses CRT technology, which is capable of using any light gun.

Here's an image of the TV set:

Edit: I don't have it yet, mind you, but I'm very interested in this TV set. Should I buy when I get enough walking around money? Would you buy it? Why or why not?

Well, how about a cheaper way to do it?

http://www.play-asia.com/paOS-13-71-1i-49-en-70-2vss.html

It works out of the box with PS2, Xbox, PC, and PS3.

You could probably use it on NES and SNES games played through an emulator.

It's only $40.

The TV is $450, only 30 inches. And, only supports 1080i. If you are going to get a HDTV, get a full 1080p. You current and future games and movies, will thank you for it.

Unless you REALLY REALLY like light-gun games, I couldn't justify buying a crappier (yet surprisingly expensive) TV just to play them.

I can't remember a single light gun game that I really enjoyed, unless it was in the arcade and it was made by Sega or Namco.

Gumshoe for NES and Gangster Town for the SMS are the best light gun games I remember. I don't think there has been a game like Gumshoe before or since it came out.
