I will investigate this a bit this coming Tuesday. I'll be away until then (visiting some friends in Boston).

No idea. My guess is that Google is moving away from HTML, and towards more dynamic content. Unfortunately, this is bad for searchers.
Have you ever searched for information on an obscure NES game, only to have the first few results be sites like Gamespot and Mobygames, and when you click on the link, there's no meaningful information, other than a release date and "SCREENSHOT NOT AVAILABLE"? Because those sites use RSS Feeds on every page, it appears to search engines that they are constantly updated and therefore must have some sort of meaningful content on the information you searched for, even though they don't.
Meanwhile, the Revolution X page hasn't been updated in at least a year.

Well that sucks because I in the habit of opening a new tab and typing "g" into my address bar and just hitting the down arrow to pick "google.com" to do my searches.

On Firefox, I use Google, because Google is linked to the search box and I'm too lazy to change it.
On IE, I use Yahoo.

Well Yahoo is not all that bad. I can check my Yahoo e-mail account and check the news at the same time. but I still prefer Google.

Honestly, I don't understand the appeal of Google. If it was an ice cream flavor, it'd be vanilla.

Vanilla is according to some Barenaked Ladies song..."the finest of the flavors."

Seconded, especially when mixed with strawberry.
If Google were an ice cream flavor, it'd be pralines and dick.

No, Google would be pistachio - not everyone knows how to fully enjoy the flavor.

You should totally check out the IRC channel.

There are really only 3 major search engines:
1. Google
2. Microsoft
3. Yahoo
The reason why I like Google the best is because they present their results in a very easy to read format and the results are usually what I am looking for.
Microsoft's results are usually "good" but their output is displayed in such a way that it really sucks. I hate how it looks and have a hard time following it.
Yahoo vs Google... I guess it comes down to associated accounts for me. I use my gmail/google docs/youtube all the time. It makes sense to me that I just go to one very uncluttered webpage for all of it.
Also, as Google improves their search algorithms to avoid people breaking and fucking with page ranks, Yahoo just kinda lets spammers fly. Yes, this means that sometimes Sydlexia.com's Orange Party won't be the first website on Google's list, but it does insure that general word searches that aren't based on titles/meta data will direct to more correct places.
Lastly, Google's news page is fucking awesome.

I think I should submit sitemaps to Google for the main sections of the site: Jeebus, Haddox, Site News, the wiki, and of course, SL Proper. Only problem is that I don't know how to do it. Anyone know how to generate sitemaps?

What about AltaVista?
I searched for "Top 100 nes games" and Syd took the 1st and 2nd result!
ADD ON: Fuck.... I searched for "Knyte's VGM" in AltaVista and my mini-blog on Destructoid took 1st and 2nd, Syd's Forum took 3rd and 4th, some site called "www.omgili.com" took 5th. and My offical Knyte's VGM site took 6th.

AltaVista was purchased by Overture, then Yahoo bought them.
Yahoo's search uses a part of the technology included in AltaVista's patents, but not all.
Either way, this is an archaic search engine that doesn't really count in 2009.
There are 4 engines that I am aware of right now that actually matter:
1. Google
2. Live (Microsoft)
3. Yahoo
4. Ask

I acually have more luck finding things in Alta Vista lately than with Yahoo or Google. Archaic or not, it works. Like swords.

They are important, but you would really only use them to link the major branches of a website.
Each major branch should have their own link trees that can be crawled.
