Growing up going to the movies was probably one of the most fun things to do on the weekends. I would go to the local theater, plays some arcade games such as Mortal Kombat 2 and 3 ,go get a huge big coke and sit in the chilly theater. I would usually have my neighbors come with me and wait on the movie to start at a packed theater.
I remember during the period of 1992-1995 there was literally a good kids movie that came out every month. (Little Big League,Sandlot, Angels in the Outfield,Flintstones.etc.)
Now it seems that everybody I know either says "I will just get the movie on DVD or I will just download it". The last movie that i could get all my friends to see was Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back and that was like in 2001.
The whole experience of going and seeing a movie in the theatre is alot better to me yet some people don't adhere to this Am I missing something?
The best experience I had lately was seeing Yes Man with my bro. The one before that was when I got my dad out who hadnt been to the movies since gladiator who went and saw Transformers with me.
worst experience was seeing Saw IV alone, no one in the theater and they literally were turning the lights on even before the credits the movie sucked so bad.

I haven't gone to the movies since the summer. I had a great time when I went though. I went to go see Iron Man, The Hulk, Indiana Jones, Hellboy II, and a few more I can't remember. Last summer was chock-full of movies I wanted to see. I haven't gone lately though because my friends have all stopped hanging out with me, that and I don't see any movies coming out that interest me. I'm hoping this summer will be better.

Whenever I hit the movies, it's with at least two people. But those two are usually pretty excited to go. You know, as much as you can be excited about a movie I suppose...

Ermac,
I hope that these reasons answer your question:
1. The cost is too high
2. Movies are on a schedule that requires patrons to be on time
3. Cell phones
4. Loud popcorn eaters
5. Talkers
6. Requires travel to get to
7. Good seat not guaranteed
8. Lines to get tickets
9. Mandatory previews
10. Very full or busy parking lot
11. No pause button
12. Can't watch in just your underwear
13. Dick in a popcorn box won't get you arrested at home

I go occasionally, but there just aren't many movies that come out that I want to risk the money seeing in a theater... on top of being poor and not having the TRANSPO™.

i have my movie day. usually alone cause no one else is down to hang out at the movies all day, but its usually on sundays. leave the house around 10 or so. unless im hungover, then i wont go probably. i take the bus cause i dont want to pay for parking and cause im probably gonna drink at the movies. buy a 4 pack of steel reserve or something similar, buy my ticket for $5 @ amc cause its before noon and then just sneak around from movie to movie.
and since its sunday and people usually dont do anything on sundays, the theaters are relatively empty, so the seats are generally good and not too many kids to deal with

BABIES DON'T WATCH THIS, LEAVE THE SEED OUTSIDE! RUN IT OVER AFTER THE SHOW!
Movies are expensive and usually suck these days which is why I don't go. Plus, all the libraries around here get movies as soon as they come out on DVD so if something looks pretty good I can just wait to see it for free. I guess living in Tucson I went to movies a lot more because you could sneak in if you timed it right. In Wisconsin though, all the theaters have people standing outside them who check your ticket.

My reasons have been: high prices, sticky movie theatre floor, loud people, and the advent of the home theatre. It's much more convenient watching it at home now than dealing with all that crap.

I agree the price is a big factor. Where I live, it's $8.50 for a discount or matinee ticket, $10.50 for a full price evening. Not to mention the cost of concessions. (Yeah, you can sneak stuff in, but the principle sucks, and you CAN'T sneak in popcorn.)
That said, my friends and I do go to the movies sometimes, but there hasn't been anything we desperately wanted to see since the last LOTR movies, so I usually go alone and use it as escapist "me" time. Its good for that.

I won't watch just anything on DVD, much less the big screen, and its a giant fucking hassle to get everyone coordinated. I go when I want to, alone, only to big screen movies, and 1-1/2 weeks into playing so that I got some stretching room.

1, 5, 7, and 14 are basically why I don't see new movies often.

The local theater around here got an IMAX screen so I'm psyched for Star Trek and "Harry Potter 5 vol. 1."

1. The cost is too high
That depends, there are 10 dollars movie theaters here but also 2 dollar second run ones as well
2. Movies are on a schedule that requires patrons to be on time
That is the biggest gripe of mine, trying to get to a movie at a 715 showing on friday night traffic is teh suck
3. Cell phones
Yeah that can be annoying, but I have noticed alot of people have gotten better about this
4. Loud popcorn eaters
I have never heard that to be honest
5. Talkers
Usually kids or ethnics and that depends when you go and see it and what part of town
6. Requires travel to get to
True, but so does going to the local Blockbuster
7. Good seat not guaranteed
Opening weekend, never, but if you go to the pre 7 and 10 showing you can usually get a good one
8. Lines to get tickets
longest i have ever had to wait for tickets was like 10 minutes, and that was a theater that just opened, edit i waited 30 for episode III
9. Mandatory previews
That part of the fun of going to the movies
10. Very full or busy parking lot
yeah, but not like at a sporting event
11. No pause button
yeah, sometimes your gottta pee and you miss a good scene
12. Can't watch in just your underwear
true, but who does that unless they are home sick?
13. Dick in a popcorn box won't get you arrested at home
I have taken dates to the second run show and been in the back getting a blowjob and I have nevr had any issues
14. The quality of movies has gone down significantly.
I agree on that

I think I stopped going mainly because my friends don't hang out with me anymore. I find it really hard to go to movies alone, it's just not as fun.

Alot of my friends work till like 10 on weekend, making it sort of difficult.
Some movies are good to see alone but mostly I prefer a packed theater with at least 3 other people with me

I have only gone to one or two movies alone. I always feel like a lonely nerd when I do. When Iron Man first came out me and my friends watched it five-times within two weeks. We'd be hanging out when one of us would bring up Iron Man and we'd go see it again. I didn't have as many bills back then so it wasn't much of a problem. Their was something about that movie that just made it awesome. I'm not really a comic-reading person, however I really enjoyed that movie.

I know it's a little off-topic, but I heard that they weren't getting the same guy to play Rhodes/War Machine in the sequel.
Anyway, I hope that this summer will have a few good movies in theaters, I don't want to spend all summer cooped-up in the house.

yeah I dont like being in the house all the time either
I actually go out and jog twice a week just so I can get my head clear from the studying and other stresses
The movie should be good, on par with the first most likely.

I hope so. I shall see it regardless.
I'd love to jog, but my asthma kills me when I have to run outside. I could stand to lose a few pounds, but whenever I have to strain myself outside I tend to run out of breath faster than I would if I was inside on the exercise bike.
Are their any good movies coming out this summer?

Star Trek and Inglorious Basterds are the only movies I'm really looking forward to. I might see Terminator Salvation but there are other movies I'd rather see first.

1. The cost is too high
Ermac: That depends, there are 10 dollars movie theaters here but also 2 dollar second run ones as well
GPFontaine: Not where I live. When they used to exist they were shit theaters with crappy projection, sound, and seating.
3. Cell phones
Ermac: Yeah that can be annoying, but I have noticed alot of people have gotten better about this
GPFontaine: The fuck they have. I have been to 4 movies over the last two years, every fucking one had some asshole with a retarded ring and at least 2 others who were texting with their ultrabright nightlight screens.
4. Loud popcorn eaters
Ermac: I have never heard that to be honest
GPFontaine: You are deaf.
5. Talkers
Ermac: Usually kids or ethnics and that depends when you go and see it and what part of town
GPFontaine: The rich theaters don't have this problem as often, but 3 out of the 4 last movies I have seen have been plagued by these ghouls.
6. Requires travel to get to
Ermac: True, but so does going to the local Blockbuster
GPFontaine: Local video stores are closer for me and I would imagine this is true for most people. Theaters aren't as abundant as rental stores.
7. Good seat not guaranteed
Ermac: Opening weekend, never, but if you go to the pre 7 and 10 showing you can usually get a good one
GPFontaine: Guaranteed means guaranteed, not MOSTLY guaranteed.
8. Lines to get tickets
Ermac: longest i have ever had to wait for tickets was like 10 minutes, and that was a theater that just opened, edit i waited 30 for episode III
GPFontaine: Dude, where the fuck do you live that you don't have these problems? East bumblefuck? I live in the north east, I was in Boston and now am in Central Connecticut. There are line on Friday Night, Saturday, Saturday Night, and Sunday.
9. Mandatory previews
Ermac: That part of the fun of going to the movies
GPFontaine: Some of them. I hate horror movies and I really hate seeing previews for them. If I am not in a horror movie, I don't want to see previews for one.
10. Very full or busy parking lot
Ermac: yeah, but not like at a sporting event
GPFontaine: How often do you go to sporting events? When I lived in Boston I would take public transportation and be crowded like a sardine in the train. Worse, when I was just moving around the city, the sporting events would cause mad rushes to the trains even if I wasn't attending the game. Still... this has nothing to do with a movie. When I go to a movie on the weekend the parking lot is crowded. I'm not saying it is a complete deterrent, but it is not fun.
11. No pause button
Ermac: yeah, sometimes your gottta pee and you miss a good scene
GPFontaine: Sometimes you have to slap the shit out of some kid who was talking during a good scene and you wish to god you had a rewind button for that climactic scene you just had ruined. Or you have to pee.
12. Can't watch in just your underwear
Ermac: true, but who does that unless they are home sick?
GPFontaine: Me. I am not homesick. I live at home with my wife. Watching movies in underwear is awesome. If you haven't done it, I suggest it. It is fucking sweet.
13. Dick in a popcorn box won't get you arrested at home
Ermac: I have taken dates to the second run show and been in the back getting a blowjob and I have nevr had any issues
GPFontaine: I have actually never had any form of sexual encounter in a theater. Thank god. There is nothing about that type of situation that turns me on. When I go to a movie I want to see, I want sexy time before it or after it, not during.
14. The quality of movies has gone down significantly.
Ermac: I agree on that
GPFontaine: Bullshit. There have been tons of great movies that have come out over the last decade. Just because there are a ton of shit ones doesn't mean that the good movies aren't there. The Lord of the Rings movies really let you down? Really?
